keithgersbear 3,225
Every game I watch of Barcelona in La Liga, it just never seems to be competitive. Entertaining you could say because of Messi and the goals but as a competition, its not even a contest and for that reason I find it leaves a lot to be desired. I wish a few teams could give them a real game.

the goal machine 7,997
Nah, I'm pretty sure La Liga means "the league" so they're not exhibition matches. They're just quite good.
keithgersbear 3,225
EPL>>>>>>La LigaI was going to say that but it seems now if you try and give some praise to the Premier League, you are looked at as some old school of hard knocks football and tuesday night in Stoke City mentality which isn't the case at all. I just feel as a league, the competition towards Barcelona seems non existent.

JamieD 20,071
Given that I have no emotional investment in Spanish football, the thrill of close matches is not something I necessarily require in order to enjoy the game. I just want to watch quality football. In this sense, a 5-0 hammering by one team of another inferior team has its charms just as a closely fought battle does.Of course, in the case of Barcelona, this doesn't merely apply to when they play shite teams. The 5-0 game against Real wasn't competitive, but it was thrilling.
papaguy51 941
It's not as exciting as the EPL, I don't think many would disagree.A more patient style of football and the two/three best players in Spain are beyond anything England can offer, but it's the rougher style of football that makes the EPL a more entertaining watch in general. The Godfather 75,959
I prefer it to the EPL.Football IMO is of a higher standard all through the league. I enjoy both though.
Amac9 2,060
The thing with La Liga is they have 2 teams who are miles ahead of everyone else. Although this season Atletico Madrid are showing up well.In the past 10 years the standard of the Premier League has dropped IMO but it has made things more interesting. I don't think there is one stand out team in the Premiership but that is what makes it exciting. Man Utd and Man City are the two best teams in the league but you have a good group of teams below them who make it interesting. If you want to watch the best players then you would watch La Liga but if you want to see a closely fought league then the Premiership is the best to watch. Go back to basics, to the very principle of leagues & divisions. It's wrong that 2 teams competing in the same "league" are infact, 'leagues' apart, such is the case between Barca/Real & the likes of Rayo Vallecano. King Jela 21,754
La Liga is miles ahead of anyone else technically and quality wise. When Bilboa destroyed Man United last season that was a satisfying glimpse of how strong the Spanish league actually is.

It's a financial issue though, excluding the big 2 the La Liga teams are in a perilous financial state yet teams like Swansea can pick up gems from La Liga like Michu & Hernandez for their pocket change. GlenH79 42
I thought the standard of play in the Bundesliga was great, some really good technical play, coupled with a very competitive league (belied a bit at the moment by Bayern being 9 clear). So the Bundesliga offers another alternative

sdunsmb 43
La Liga has more technical quality these days, whilst EPL has the excitement, better atmospheres, more frantic games.Personally I prefer watching EPL games and do agree that most La Liga games aren't excited.I think the TV structure also has an effect in that EVERY Barca and Real game s shown whilst in England, Man Utd against a weak team at home (which is usually an easy game) isn't usually televised. Maybe if this was shown in UK it would give people a better appreciation of the overall standard of la liga, rather than just watching the big two steamroller teams or in the case of Jose's lot...continuously dropping points against teams Barca hump! Is always hard to judge how the lower half teams of respective leagues would fare against each other, but in terms of top half, I don't believe any other league can compete with the success Spanish clubs have had in Europe, overall, recently. I know a lot of English clubs seem not to rate the Europa League...more fool them if you ask me! I remember O'Neill once saying they were resting players for a UEFA cup match so they could "concentrate on the league and qualifying for Europe"...what the fuck is the point concentrating effort to qualify for a competition that when you get there don't try and compete in? plymouthranger 4,284
Bit off topic, but how the hell are levante so high up. I know they've had a good couple of seasons, but seriously that's unbelievable. Their budget must be a fifth of what Valencia get (shame to see them struggling btw, I went to the mestalla 2 years ago and it was incredible if not a bit of a death trap) and yet they seem to be a real tough outfit to beat
