MisterC 12,765
So here is little old me, not long in from a hard days graft and doing the internet rounds and get round to my daily dose of Bill McMurdo chat. Usually I agree, although not always, and today was one of those days where I couldnt believe what I read. He was saying about Green's comments on Sky to Jeff Randall saying that everything was for sale at Ibrox and agreed to the extent that Rangers should be seeking to exploit as many revenue gaining avenues as possible, which I do agree with up to a point. And then we get to the bit that was grinding my gears......He was saying that he would agree with a sponsorship deal which would rename the team a la Red Bull Salzburg, and cites possible ones like IKEA or Vodafone Rangers, and I could not believe my eyes when he said that. What a fecking terrible idea. We are Rangers FC and by all means sponsor stands, the stadium, players, dugouts, kits etc but the club name must stay sacroscant and not be cheapened by adding a commercial partner to the name. Such a tacky idea and unless someone out there was to pay £50m per season to do this then theres no chance I would agree.Sorry Bill, no offence but that idea really is a shit one and I would hope it never comes to fruition. Allanger 625
I'm a bit confused mate. Who made the comment about renaming the team, McMurdo or Green?

The Godfather 75,950
Bill I think was letting his imagination run wild. There is zero chance The Rangers will be renamed like he was hinting at. Just wouldn't happen because we wouldn't let it and we are The heartbeat to the club.
Allanger 625
Bill McMurdoA stupid statement. This is the problem that bloggers have. They have to continuously come up with copy that interests the reader.I reckon in this case he has let his imagination run a bit in an effort to be controversial. Silly idea

But then again you never know especially in this day and age where the investors will be seeking to get as much bang for their bunks as possible. I agree though this was McM's imagination going a bit wild, but really this was one best kept to himself!
nachothelegend 1,932
Ignore it .
The Godfather 75,950
I know Cardiff changed colours and Salzburg their name but think of the backlash at a club of this size. Inveators would be taking a major risk of fans not buying ST ect.Plus as a brand we are huge and changing that would make no sense. I think the stadium issue is just bringing out worries that are unnecessary like this kind of thing.
MisterC 12,765
Maybe its just being controversial to spark a debate, which I of course would never do, its just not my thing.
TravelingWilBEARy 4,319
Everything at the club is for sale = Whoring our soul away for short term financial gain.Never mind McMurdo, I can't believe Green is getting away with saying that. However given where Scottish football lies in the grand scheme of things Rangers must exploit as many revenue streams as possible. However there are lines in the sand which should not be crossed and the name is one of them,

AlBear. 8,499
These investors were drawn in by us fans. '45,000+ in the 4th tier? We'll have some of that'. We are Rangers, our colour is Blue. This won't change because as it has been said we won't let it. They won't risk our wrath because we are the main reason they invested so much in the first place.I think this is shameful sensationalism of the highest order. Lumping it in with the debate about stadium naming rights is just to put people off that idea.
Ace 3,645
I have previously stated I don't mind the stadium re-branding but the idea of selling the club name just astounded me.Something I don't think I've ever considered or ever would, it's akin to renaming your child for financial gain. Ozblue 4,332
Anybody who thinks Green would ever contemplate re-naming our club is either fucking mental in the head or on a fishing trip.Taken from the mouth of Green personally when he gave his speech on the park: "Rangers then,Rangers now,Rangers forever!"McMurdo was paraphrasing, guys, although it was a fucking daft thing to say on his part.Even Craig Whyte wouldn't have been silly enough to pull that rabbit from his arse!On second thoughts......... We Will Follow Rangers 13,404
is it possible bill is being a tad disingenuous here?and the subtext to his article is painting a picture of what the consequences of "Everything at the club is for sale" are.reads more like a warning than a ringing endorsement to go ahead and sell the clubs soul down the river.
