Ally up for name plan.

ALLY McCOIST insists Rangers fans MUST listen to any offers to rename Ibrox.

Gers chief executive Charles Green wants to sell the naming rights to a sponsor to raise money — but around 200 Light Blues fans protested AGAINST that proposal at the 3-0 win over Annan Athletic in midweek.

Those protests saw eight arrests as trouble flared after clashes with police.

But while gaffer McCoist insists the club must listen to fans, he feels they can’t ignore extra income.

He said: “I am 100 per cent behind the fans voicing their opinions — as long as it’s done in a legal way.

“I’ve gone on record as saying that we must listen to the fans.

“I can understand the business and finance side of it, but I can also understand the history and the tradition.

“I would have to see what’s on offer, what it means and what it would affect before I gave an opinion.

“There will be times where we’ll have to make decisions about the club that will not please the fans — but that doesn’t mean to say we shouldn’t listen to them.”

Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley is said to be interested but chief Green was jeered by a small minority of fans’ group the Union Bears when he addressed the Ibrox crowd on Tuesday night as they held up ‘Always Ibrox’ posters.

McCoist added: “It’s all about opinions and people will disagree, that’s the nature of the beast.

“But we all have to have a healthy respect of each others’ opinions.”

Meanwhile, Elgin City chairman Graham Tatters has been fined £5,000 over the Borough Briggs ticket fiasco. The Moray club sold more than 1,000 tickets too many for last month’s Gers clash.

The SFA ruled £1,000 must be paid within 30 days with the rest suspended until the end of the season.

Only got this far, this is a blatant lie is it not? The protest happened way before any incidents with the police AFAIK.

Aye, utter bullshit mate. Protest was a card display/chanting before kick-off, the trouble in BF1 was @ about 65-70 mins.

I suppose one way of looking at it is it's the biggest pockle ever since none of us will be using the new name so it's really just money for old rope.

In some ways it's the same arguments that were used before shirt advertising became common place

That's the way I see it.Money for nothing.

Whoring our soul.

Don't be so dramatic. I'd whore you out and every other poster on here if it would benefit Rangers.

Spot on. Nothing changes. It's the biggest non argument ever. Take the money, we still play at ibrox. (tu)

We don't need the money at the moment, Green has said as much.

We have suffered very publicly through admin and liquidation which was humiliating enough.

For most people a big part of supporting your team is abput the bragging rights and traditions and if we erode those our foundations will crumble.

We are about far more than Man City, Newcastle or Arsenal...

Renaming our stadium, our shrine, is not necessary and will just provide more fuel for those seeking to abuse us.

Fuck off with renamining the stadium Charles.

Hate this idea, the history, traditons, and class of the club are more important. Think this and the 33% budget cap on players will be my only gripe with the way we will be run from now on. I'm not going to get to demented over it though since these guys did save the club and have done a great job so far. Getting £17 million into a Scottish club from institutional investors must be one of the business achievements of the year. Just annoying it doesn't seem to be enough to make them give up on this renaming crap. It's not for club's like Rangers. These articles are probably just to smooth the path for a decision that has already been made.

I agree with TWB. Most clubs are whores now, same with players.

Anyone know if £5 million supporters shares gets any say in things like this?
