MacLeod and McKay

I'm aware we must have numerous threads on these boys by now, but seriously, they are two utterly fantastic talents.

MacLeod is very strong in the tackle, good at retaining possession and as we saw today, can hit a good shot from time to time. Very excited about this boy and think he could be one of the most gifted players to come through our ranks since Barry Ferguson.

McKay for me as well, is a sensation. Pace and trickery down the wing is something we all love to see, and he can take a man on and beat him.

I think once these two mature a bit with game time and gather some consistency in their play, we've got two exceptional young players on our hands.

It's hard to say whether these guys are actually better than previous prospects because we have taken a drop in the league we are playing in but these guys are certainly showing a consistency in the standard of their performances that their predecessors have not been able to achiver.

These guys also have the advantage of time because there is not a large squad where they could be replaced by another player or new signing and I thinik this will allow us to further nurture these 2 young guys into top quality players.

I just hope they both see theselves as Rangers men in the long run and aren't attracted to a higher wage in the obscurity of mid table England

McKay is so direct any defender in the world wouldn't relish facing him. Kilmarnock must be pig sick with themselves

Macleod, well I've been an admirer of this boy since back in September. In my personal opinion he will become one hell of a top player for us. Some say he is over-rated, I don't think so. Right now he is definately under-rated and he will only get better with experience.

17 and 18 year olds yet I feel like the wee school boy watching these two play.

:beer1: Celebratory drink for these boys. Just a coke and some cheese&onion crisps for you Bazza, til next week. :)

You can definetley say McKay is better than Wylde, Wylde just had pace and a decent delivery with his left foot but his right foot was non existent and he was poor with the ball at his feet he couldn't dribble past players so if he came up against someone with as much pace as him then he was useless, McKay has lightning pace but he is also very good with the ball at his feet, he is a good passer, a good finisher, good crosser and can dribble out of tight situations and he has a football brain Wylde didn't know what to do with it half the time. Not to mention he is 2 or 3 years younger than when Wylde broke through.

I would agree about the Ness/MacLeod comparison though; Ness was the better player for me but again MacLeod is 2 years younger than Ness was when he got his chance and I think MacLeod will become a far better player due to Ness's injury problems, I actually very much doubt Ness will have any sort of career due to his injury problems.

Totally agree re Ness...and given his attitude towards our club (who funded his recovery from numerous inuries) - I can't wish him well to prove us wrong!

Macleod appears to be a great honest footballer. Really decent technically but the beauty with him is that he knows his technical ability limits and makes this up through his drive and determination to win every ball.

I don't know if Wylde is the right player to compare Mackay with. i thought mackay was a natural striker although he is played out wide. the fact is, he is showing he can do either which already makes him more versatile than Wylde (and definitely a better technical player).

It is so pleasing to see such a good crop of young players coing through and getting the chance to develop together.

What has happened to the club in the last 12 months has been horrendous, but this Phoenix is goign to come out of the fire stronger than ever with a great team who will be able to take on anyone

For me McKay is a far better football player than Wylde who only had pace and was very one footed and lacked a football brain.

Ness was a really good prospect/player but was always injured. McLeod will be a better footballer than Ness was given time. He is younger, an all round talent, and I think he will be a really strong and talented box to box midfielder when he fully matures.

From what I've seen McKay is looking better than Wlyde but we only saw Wylde play against teams in the SPL and we have only seen McKay against SFL 3rd Division teams really so would be very harsh on Wylde to demand same level of performance against much higher level opposition.

Having said that McKay has been fantastic so far and I have high hopes him and Templeton will be our wingers for years to come (tu)

Both have came in and done well. Macleod has improved in the last couple of games when he has looked to get forward more often and help with the attacking rather than just passing around from the middle. McKay has also started to show more consistency from starting games whereas earlier in the season he was better used as a sub and struggling a bit when starting games. They look to have the talent and early signs are good but plenty of time on their hands to improve still and we wont really get to see where they are until they are playing better teams every other week.

Don't know why Wylde and Ness needed brought into the discussion because it has really taken away from the OP.

Both great players in SFL and by the time we are back in top flight football they should be great players at that level too. Pleased to see Lewis score as hes been having lots of chances recently and special mention for Kyle Hutton as not only did he score but he bossed the midfield and provided Ian Black with much food for thought regarding the standards a Ranger must play to.

I agree.

Young as they are they have certainly stepped up to the plate for us.
