TALENTED custodian Mathew Ryan will depart Australia on Monday bound for the United Kingdom where he will spend ten days training with Rangers Football Club.

Ryan will miss one Hyundai A-League match for the yellow and navy while overseas, that being the round 16 showdown with Melbourne Victory at Aurora Stadium in Launceston on Saturday 12 January.

Ryan is expected to return to the Central Coast prior to the Club’s F3 Derby clash with Newcastle Jets at Bluetongue Stadium on Saturday 19 January.

“I was in Scotland over Christmas spoke with (Rangers Manager) Ally McCoist about Mathew Ryan,” Central Coast Mariners General Manager of Football, Lawrie McKinna said.

“It is a credit to Mat and to our Club that Ally was well aware of Mat’s ability and potential and immediately offered for him to join Rangers for a training spell.”

"Mat is eager to take up the opportunity and we are sure he will learn a lot from the experience."

Central Coast Mariners will update members, fans and media should any significant developments regarding this matter occur.

I have to say i had high hopes for Matt McKay...

Sadly he was never really given a chance and i bet he regrets making the move now.

I don't think Matty regretted going to Scotland, although he wasn't given a decent chance to show what he could do.I will tell you something though, He was a far better footballer than either Ian Black or Kyle Hutton is at the moment.

Mathew Ryan is an excellent prospect as a young keeper.Arguably not as good as Mitch Langerak who ended up going to Borussia Dortmund, but an excellent keeper none the less.

If it happens that we sign him and Alexander gets injured, I have no fears of Matty Ryan taking over between the sticks. :pipe:

Cracking prospect, watching him live now turn out for central coast! Trained with spurs 6 months ago, would be excellent long term replacement for Alexander. Highly rated over here

Good to hear, definitely a market I wouldn't mind us exploring more for up and coming young players but I was under the impression we had a lad in our current youth set up who is meant to be a cracking prospect and the likes of Man utd etc are looking at him? If it does come to fruition, hopefully its not another Matt Mckay scenario.

Apparently a $230,000 deal on the cards, loaned back to a league until next season...mark bosinch just ripped Ryan a new asshole saying its a ridiculous move going to a 4th tier club and the Pfa should step in! Fuckwit mustn't be aware of the likely reconstruction, opportunity to play in front of 50,000 people, to train in the best facilities, have himself in shop window of worlds biggest league down the road, and the chance to play euro football in a matter of a few years

unfortunately this dick holds alot of sway in football circles here. Not only that, but he utterly ridiculed our club on national tv to a relatively uneducated audience...

I also saw that.

In isolation, going all the way to Europe to play in the 3rd division for a young prospect looking at getting into the Socceroos lineup in the near future, would seem a bad career move BUT Rangers are still a big club in many ways, our time in the 3rd division is only temporary and with league reconstruction and what the future holds...the move has a lot of merit in the near future.

Bosnich is being too short-sighted with his stance.

What was ironic about it was Jess Van Stratten was sitting there agreeing with him.....also a hot prospect once who didn't turn down the chance to sit on the pine at Juventus...you know, the club who got relegated to lower divisions but remained a big club in global terms.

The next Matt McKay, he isn't and never will be one of McCoists boys so the lad would be better staying where he is, sadly McCoist would just ruin his fucking career by sticking him in the reserves, same as McKay, Stella.

can you explain to all about the mkay situation, you seem to have the answers and tbh even after all this time I believe many are still none the wiser? Ally ruined mkay and stella career? Elaborate.

Is the Australian League somewhere we should be looking more closely for talent? Who else who you say could be decent signings, either now or for the future?

The McKay thing didn't work out which was a shame as I thought we had uncovered a real bargain buy. You will know the leagues much better than us in Scotland so just curious if it would prove a source of good players.

Oz if you get to see much European football, where would the A league standard compare to? I am just interested in local opinion after reading the bosnich interview

For size and stature I think the A league is prob on par with some Eastern European leagues though the technical side in these European countries is no doubt better than Oz. Bosnich Is and will always will be a nobody, he is so far up the EPL's arse it's not funny!! Total disregard for anything other than English or Oz football he's a TOSSER.

Don't compare the game to european games compare it to Scottish games.

Have a look a the better players in the league, Steven McGarry and Aaron Moohy(spelling) best players in the league.

Forget about Del boy Piero, these two boys are turning it in every week, that's your standard.

The A-League is definitely a place we should look at for talent. I was talking to Edmiston Drive a few days ago about this on here and I said we should be looking at Matty Ryan. I also said a long time ago that we should be looking at Marco Rojas from Melbourne Victory and Tomas Rogic from the Mariners.

It looks as if Rogic is heading to the EPL/Championship with Reading and I also can see Rojas going to Europe because he is some player I assure you.

The Matty McKay saga was a shame for both McKay and for us and I'm positive if the timing had been different then Matty McKay would be a first choice in our midfield today, because he brings more to a game than Black and Hutton do.

We (Rangers) have good contacts here such as Ian Ferguson, Stuart Munro, Lawrie McKinna, Craig Moore etc, so we should be using them to get the best Aussie talent available,if possible. The A-League has come a long way in ther past few years and it will only improve as more kids take notice of it and Aussies are sports mad,so it will only get better.

Sorry not jumping in for Oz on this just my opinion only!! There is some up and coming players Goodwin at Newcastle Rojas at victory and rogic at the mariners are all having good seasons... Saying that though so is Daniel MacBreen who used to play for Falkirk so it can be pretty hit and miss tbh. I'm sure Fergie and Stuart Munro will keep Super in the loop about possible signings!!
