possibilities for a "new era" at Rangers

Recommended Posts

Have been doing a great deal of reading on this forum since joining. I know this has been discussed a great deal in the past but what does everyone think about the following changes because as I see it, from a North American perspective, Rangers need to make dramatic changes if they want to be relevant in the 21st Century.

1. Staying in the Scottish League the way its currently organized is suicide. The qualty of Football in our league is horrendous.(as evidenced by the fact that there isn't much difference in quality from where i can see between div. 3 and premier league) I hope Charles Green is in talks with other Northern European Leagues to form a Northern Atlantic League of some sort? Again, I know there are roadblocks here

2. Play our games in the summer months. This has its drawbacks, i know however, this will create a niche market for viewership and is a good way for us to tap into other foreign markets( when those supporters are craving football) while giving the thousands of fans in Europe an alternative for t.v. we would also be able to have all games on Sat. at 3pm which gives viewers ONE kickoff time (3pm) or whatever.

3. our kit deal needs to be with someone popular and worldwide. ie. Adidas, Under Armour, Warrior. so that swag can be sold worldwide

I know lots of you ar going to blow holes in all of this but I just feel we need to move into the 21st century as a club and the last 12 months as difficult as it has been gives us an opportunity I hope we don't throw away.

Cheers for reading lads

Point 1 - my understanding is that RFC are pursuing alternatives to Scottish football with vigour. :sherlock:

Point 2 - Would love it - the early game at Berwick was a great example of Summer football, and in a recent thread, it proved to be the favourite away game this season - much of that was down to the glorious weather that day.

1. something has to happen, re leagues , for all the 'big' clubs in smaller countries- we are not the only country suffering with big club , small income syndrome. But things ole EPL are just pipe dreams.

2. can't really make my mind up about summer football - but my daughter plays ladies football and it works well for them - willing to try.

4. agreed !

Point 1 ; We are needing a European type league,i have been banging on for years about the Atlantic league. It would become the 3rd biggest in Europe with an estimated 40 million catchment area.

Point 2 ; Summer football has to come with a longer shutdown in Winter. I am all for it,remember sotting in the sunshine last year vs Malmoe in the shirt sleeves and shorts, pity about the result....

Summer football sounds good but haven't celtic got some extensive tours of the Far East then?

Seriously though, what are the chances of that being considered when the SPL is talking about it's ridiculous 12-12-8-16 (or whatever the hell it is) league system?

Major tournaments could be a problem, look at the EPL when African nations is on. Wouldn't affect the Scottish international players though.....

Would mean our season is underway if we have to play champions league qualifiers.

1) Agree to a point.

2) What happens with European/International competition. Leagues would have to close down every two years anyway whilst Euros & WC is on. Would also leave us out of sync with the major european leagues.

3) If games kickoff at 3pm on saturday only then there can be no TV. Its that simple. Matches cant be broadcast in the UK at that time so we could have European viewers or American viewers but the British based support won't get to watch ANY games involving Rangers.

As I've said before 20 odd years ago we were signing Duncan Ferguson for 4 million quid and Man U were signing roy keane for 3.75 million ... 20 years of sky money later we can not even hold a candle to what is being spent in the championship let alone the premiership so we NEED to get out of the dead end that is Scottish football to remain a top club in the game

Warrior for our kit supplier have you seen liverpools gear its a load of crap and do under armour even make kits Has to be addidas or puma.

Thats just your opinion, the home kit is the biggest selling liverpool kit ever and is superb, the away one is a piece of shite and hasn't sold well. At the end of the day if Warrior Or Under Armour want to hand Rangers more money than Adidas or Puma it would be stupid to turn them down.
