Funding the new structure, securing sky deal?

Don't know what all the debate is about on countless threads.

The setup will be funded from the sky deal, including Rangers tv rights.

How will they do this?, green said he wouldn't give them up again.

Rangers are only associate members of the sfl, so do not have same rights as the other "Full" members, the new structure will be rebranded and Rangers "Invited" to join on the basis they sign over the TV rights again.

Watch this fucking space.

This is what I have been thinking.

We should, however, play hardball, since we bring in more than the share apportioned to us.

This may be why Green has threatened to leave in all likelihood.

Yes - that space does need to be watched. I've been concerned for some time that a restructuring vote would somehow also be tied to a TV/media rights package in order to make it attractive (ha ha) to the TV companies. And so the risk that the drawing power of Rangers is again the cash cow for Scottish football clubs - the very ones who pushed us out of the SPL and then to Div 3. I believe Charles has told the SPL and Longmuir that Rangers would not sign over TV rights in future. So..........trouble ahead if the vote also requires signing over commercial TV rights. IE clubs voting to allocate to themselves rights they do not own ie a non-voting associate member's (Rangers) commercial rights so that they benefit from our televised presence in the leagues.

I don't know if Rangers are contractually free right now to go and negotiate directly on TV/media rights while the current contracts are winding down to a close. If there is nothing to prevent that then even more interesting if Rangers announces it has secured direct media deals timed to conincide with the ending of the current TV deals. If we are not legally obliged to refrain from securing our own direct deals then presumably we'd not delay in testing to see what sort of revenues could be generated. And if we signed some deals to take over as soon as the current SPL / SFL deal ends then we'd have a sort of 'we're sorted and you're not' outcome. Watch this space?

That being the case we should simply tell them no thank you, we shall stay as associate members with no voting rights. Getting voting rights isn't going to get us back to the top division any quicker nor gain us anything else, given the other clubs obvious delight in voting against us at every turn.

Won't they try and use the license trick again? As only associate members, can they try this on again ?

Dunno, how long does a Club stay as an 'associate member' ? IS there a set amount of years... like an apprenticeship or ?

If we are not going to be a full member any time soon then in that case the sword can be held over our necks each and every year without ANY league reconstruction ?

So there must be a time-limit on being an associate member eh ?

I can see a ' request' by Gers fans not to pay or watch matches on tv if it's obvious we are being used. From the evidence of this seasons viewing figures surely the tv companies do not want a major part of their audience unhappy with the new tv contract and their own monthly payments used against them. A lot of cancelled subscriptions coming.

I'm pretty sure I saw that it takes three years. I don't know if that's true or not.

I'm sure the powers that be and Sky / ESPN themselves have viewing figures for games they've shown in the mickey mouse league and the games we've been involved in and what ones return the highest viewing figures - outwith the Champ League matches where they continually wax lyrical about the fantastic turnout from the mhanks (they can only afford one game per month when the giro's been paid!!). Thats why they'll be keen to ensure that any TV deal will involve us. If only we could tell them to shove it and secure our own TV deal and ensure the income paid by fans went to us and us alone. I'm fed up with us paying for freeloaders that despise us in EVERY way!

Regarding the license, we have full our full SFA license. That's the same licence we've always had and was transferred from the Oldco.

The associate membership is for the SFL.

what happens if we say no? the last time we wouldn't have been allowed in and so no football. This time we already are in - albeit an associate member. Would they threaten to kick us out?

THE biggest question in all of this is do we automatically transfer to the new league structure or do we need to be "invited" ? If we need to be invited then this is their way of using us for media rights AGAIN and go for our titles.

that's what he said yesterday about the TV deal, but i don't even know if he's sure about the facts.

Doncaster has said that the current TV deals, which still has two years to run, “accommodate the new structure” but has said that discussions would have to be held with all relevant parties.

The current SPL TV deal runs until the end of the 2014/15 season. The money provided by that deal is understood to be guaranteed, regardless of any change, and underpins the financial distribution model being developed.

The sponsorship of the SPL and the SFL, by Clydesdale Bank and Irn-Bru respectively, are on contracts that end this summer so any new league could negotiate a new deal from scratch.

If we are put in a position of having to be invited (or even if not and we are automatically in) I think it's time to make a final stand. Don't give up our TV rights to feed the new league and go looking for a new home or start our own breakaway league in Scotland. We only need 10 to 12 teams who want to do well and treat us fairly.

If we had to sit out a year living off friendly games we could survive given the support we have for the SFL matches.

agree we could stand for ir but playing devils advocate for a minute.would we be able top attrract the bigger clubs who will mostly be in the champs lge etc.would we be able to get police at the games cant see them spending resources/man hours for friendlies.and am not sure we would get the turnout at ibrox for a whole season of friendlies.with the best will in the world the fans want competative games that have some kind of end product.
