SFA's Stewart Regan hits back at George Peat claiming: We've achieved more in two years than in previous 20

11 Jan 2013 07:25

REGAN hit back after ex-SFA president Peat had accused him and SPL ccounterpart Neil Doncaster of being out of touch with Scottish football over their planned restructure.

STEWART REGAN has blasted back at George Peat in the row over the controversial plan to reconstruct our game.

And the man championing the 12-12-18 revolution insisted the SFA has done more good during his two years as chief executive than it had in the previous 20.

Regan came out fighting in the latest in a series of explosive exclusive interviews with Record Sport over the proposals to overhaul the current four-tier system and merge the SPL and SFL into one body.

Stewart Regan: Scottish football reform plan is about innovation & excitement.. these changes can work

And he responded to claims made by former SFA president Peat that he is in danger of bungling the biggest chance for change the game has known.

Regan said: “I’d say I have delivered more in the last two years than the SFA have delivered in the previous two decades.

“George has his own view but it’s disappointing to hear his comments because he was

instrumental in my appointment. He has seen the benefits and his legacy will be the implementation of the McLeish Report which I have delivered for him. My credibility is not at stake.”

Peat had insisted Regan and fellow Englishman Neil Doncaster, the SPL’s chief, were out of touch with the needs of the Scottish game.

But an angry Regan said: “I understand football – that’s why I’ve been able to deliver all these changes. I have led the SFA through some of the most difficult issues it has had to deal with in its history.”

And if Scotland’s 42 clubs vote to proceed with the new set-up, Regan believes those who pushed the plan over the line may become regarded across the world as being among the game’s greatest innovators.

When asked if the 12-12-18 blueprint was a stop-gap solution, Regan said: “Who’s to say this won’t be the best solution? It could be the best thing that ever happens to Scottish football"

He has managed to make Scottish football an even bigger laughing stock than it has ever been before.

The League set ups are a joke, the way Rangers were/are treated is a complete disgrace and the national team is a complete and utter embarrassment.

What a shower of useless tossers they actually are.

I now fully believe Regan is mentally ill.

WTF has then SFA achieved in the last two years? The viewing figures and attendances are down for the SPL, the Country's biggest Club sit in the bottom tier of Scotland's professional game, the National Team sit in the 70's of the World Rankings and they are corrupt.

The SFA has achieved nothing.

Can't believe that Regan and Doncaster are still in their jobs. The way they went about things in the summer should've finished them both. There's obviously someone somewhere who carries a great deal of power who wants this pair where they are.

The last 2 years Vs. the last 20 years?

Hmmmm.

Let us examine his claims of having achieved more in the last two years....

2010-2012/13

  1. Allowed Whyte to cripple the nation's largest club.
  2. Allowed referees to be witch-hunted.
  3. Allowed one particular ref to be witch-hunted completely from the game.
  4. More referees have left in disgust.
  5. Allowed a respected former referee and refereeing supervisor to be witch-hunted completely from the game.
  6. Caused a referee strike.
  7. Caused foreign referees to be called in.
  8. Mislead foreign referees.
  9. Allowed 6 months to pass without preparing for both obvious potential outcomes.
  10. Allowed the biggest club to be witch-hunted to the bottom.
  11. Party to a plan to kill the 3rd and 2nd division teams'(barring Queen of the South who have pretty much clinched promotion already) seasons and make the game less competitive with more meaningless games.
  12. Party to a plan to change the rules mid-season.
  13. Illegal transfer embargo punishment enforced.
  14. Massively dwindling income due to all of the above.
  15. Not qualifying for anything at all.
  16. Employing Craig Levein.
  17. Keeping Levein
  18. Clumsily sacking Levein.
  19. Blackmailing SFL clubs.
  20. Allowing hatred and bigotry to target one club.
  21. Allowing increased bad blood in the game.

1990-2010

  1. Qualified for Italia 90
  2. Qualified for Euro 96
  3. Qualified for France 98
  4. Rangers reach last 8, finishing in last 4 of the inaugural(92-93) Champions' League.
  5. Celtic reach UEFA cup final
  6. Rangers reach reach UEFA cup final
  7. Berti Vogts (bad)
  8. Walter Smith

Aye, Stuart, yer a genius!

How did we manage before you arrived?

But don't worry about the future, he has scientific proof this will work...

When asked if the 12-12-18 blueprint was a stop-gap solution, Regan said: “Who’s to say this won’t be the best solution? It could be the best thing that ever happens to Scottish football"

In other words, we don't know if this plan is the worst plan. It could be the best plan, but it's the only plan we've come up with. doh

The only question this highlights is "How the fuck has Stuart Regan lasted two years?"

Go! Go now! For the love of God, just go!

I would love to hear regans retort.

Cheers mate. (tu)

I think you would be looking at the SFA site and I don't know if it's that interactive and democratic.

Others may be able to help here.

Feel free to share, and add to it.
