dan_ger 1,454
Sorry if this has already been posted but I can't see it in the BD, from yesterdays Sun. Think a solution where we could play in a domestic and cross border league would be a good solution all round.CAMPBELL OGILVIE has told Charles Green that he won’t let Rangers quit Scottish football. But the SFA President insists he WILL do all he can to help both Gers and Celtic live their dream of being part of an all-new European league set-up further down the line.Ibrox supremo Charles Green claimed earlier this week that his club should look to leave if the SPL and SFL’s plans to introduce a new 12-12-18 league set-up are pushed through. Right now Gers would have nowhere to go — and UEFA rules wouldn’t allow them to move to another country. But SFA President Ogilvie senses chiefs in Nyon are finally warming to the idea of establishing a cross-border league involving some of the continent’s bigger clubs. And he revealed he can now see a scenario where one day the Old Firm could be involved in both a Scottish AND European set-up.He said: “We have a situation in this country where the championship has been won by the Old Firm something like 47 times in 50 years.“I can understand the Rangers scenario or certain clubs maybe wanting to play elsewhere. The slight change this time is that there’s been a softening with UEFA on this.“They are opening up more to the idea of clubs crossing borders.“I don’t know where that’s going to go — and even if it goes somewhere it’s not going to move forward significantly in the next two or three years.“We embrace looking at that. We have to be looking at these issues and we have an open mind — we’re not anti that at all.“A year ago I went to a UEFA meeting where the issue was raised for the first time. We reported it to the Professional Game Body here and the decision was taken that, yes, we should be looking at this. We’ve been involved in discussions. The European Club Association has been involved and so have UEFA.“We can’t be left behind. It’s an avenue we have to explore.“But it won’t change overnight.”Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell, unlike Green, confirmed earlier this week that the Hoops ARE keen to play their part in the new 12-12-18 set-up.But the Hoops have openly admitted they would be interested in playing in an expanded European league.Ogilvie believes a number of big clubs across the continent are now starting to share a similar view. But he insists the Old Firm’s first priority must be helping Scottish football get its house in order. He said: “We’ve got to be a step ahead so we are speaking to UEFA. The clubs in the ECA — Rangers, Celtic, Hearts and Aberdeen to a lesser degree — will be involved in these debate.“That’s being done — but what we have is an immediate problem in the game and that has to be addressed at the same time.“In the short term we have to be looking at how we can improve the game in this country.“That’s where we need ALL the clubs working together going forward.”Read more: http://www.thesun.co...l#ixzz2HwmAsUXR
harry handsome 629
I've said it in many previous posts, it will happen sooner or later.Leaving a team in the domestic league is akin to having a reserve team, would it mean no future CL participation as it may have to be run mid week.Or as I see it a mid week league played by europes big teams in CL1 CL2 etc according to where you finish in the domestic league.Round robin final round of games ie semi finals between the top teams in each league give you a super champion as such. Not too hard to work out is it. Was talking with a mate at the weekend about regional cross border leagues all across Europe for the bigger teams. The European cup would become a smaller competition but would still sort out the best teams in Europe one way or the other.Domestic football would probably be reserve to an extent but the emphasis would have to be forced that money had to be spent on upgrading of community facilities and developing younger players. I imagine there would be plenty of money available for such a set up.Might even see a move towards an American model where we have football on every night of the week! topgoalie 637
I just want us out of Scottish Football its run by bigots and liers. The sooner the better mate,to be involved with a better standard of football, and treated equally with no hidden agendas. We had a discussion about this on our supporters bus on Saturday, and there is a definate shift towards this. The only downside is the travelling, but you can be in Amsterdam ln half the time it takes to go to Aberdeen....... bluedart1952 1,391
Cambell Ogilvie say's the Old Firm’s first priority must be helping Scottish football get its house in order. Can you please tell us MR Ogilvie, at what point are we, as the biggest club in Scotland going to be allowed to take part in the restructuring of Scottish Football. and when will we be made to feel welcome in our own country by all the bigoted liars that you work with.

We could then have Euro games on select weekends to suit the domestic calendar.I have a raft of ideas that could ignite interest in the game from not only sponsors but fans, as I'm sure many others have. The trick is to make the game more appealing and get some investment flowing down the leagues, something we have no chance of doing with the current regime in charge. There is too much potential for money to be made to continue with the current system. Clubs like Rangers need a chance to grow and expand otherwise the current big leagues will continue to strangle the life out of football to the point of utter boredom. I haven't watched CL group stages with any great interest for about three years. You know who is going through, it's fairly predictable. Any change though needs to be attached to reality and by that I mean they need to flood money into facilities get kids playing football again. There needs to be a feeling from the average punter that by paying for Sky Sports and buying Nike and Adidas sports products will somehow contribute to their kids quality of life being better. dan_ger 1,454
McCoist floating a two side approach with a team in England and Scotland.I have been wondering why this hasn't been considered before. I still prefer the idea of a set of cross border leagues throughout Europe but this would be good too! ALLY McCOIST has floated the idea of Rangers having TWO teams — playing in DIFFERENT countries.McCoist says if his club were able to join the English leagues, he could have a side playing in England and a ‘feeder’ side staying to play here.He says it would currently be impossible to have two teams as his club lack the personnel. But he argues it COULD happen if Rangers were ever invited into an English set-up.He said: “You’d need to weigh up the prospects of moving south.“There would be a lot of things attached to it.“Could you keep a team in Scotland to play in the SFL, for instance? If Rangers and Celtic were playing Yeovil, for example, could you have two teams filling Ibrox and Parkhead back here?“These are things you’d have to look at.“And contrary to what a lot of people think, Scottish football is very important to us.“The conscience thing would certainly play a part. As British as I am, nobody loved playing for Scotland more than me.“What would happen to us in Scotland would be of importance to the club if things were to change.”McCoist admits the Old Firm moving to England has been a regular topic of debate — without ever coming to anything. But he says if it DID happen, the Old Firm would be bigger than everyone except Manchester United. He said: “We’ve all spoken about it for a long time. I know Peter Lawwell and Charles Green have been looking at it for a while and I think they’ll keep every avenue open if it keeps that possibility alive. We have made it quite clear it’s something that would interest both clubs.“If you get into England, the sky’s the limit.“It’s all ifs and buts but Rangers and Celtic in a top league in Britain would be as powerful as anything — apart from Manchester United who are arguably the biggest club in the world.“But Rangers and Celtic would have the potential to be as big as anything in the UK.”Meanwhile, McCoist argues if league reconstruction goes ahead here, Gers’ transfer embargo should be lifted. As it stands, they can’t register new players until September 1.But McCoist insists that if powerbrokers want to kill the current structure in favour of a 12-12-18 set-up — with a new league body in charge — everything changes. He said: “They’re changing the structure within the league but the punishment is going to stay in place.“If it was changed in the summer and the embargo lifted, we wouldn’t need to wait till September 1.“Some might argue it’s an SFA ban but it’s certainly a fair shout — to us anyway!”Read more: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/leaguedivision3/4741199/We-could-play-in-England-and-Scotland.html#ixzz2HxaPjkm5
