cushynumber 25,178
This was Minstrals post on the 5th March at 11:11 in the “Charles :I’ll walk away” topic.Thank God i have been part of the best days of supporting our club. Days when people would meet up with their mates, and have a great day, and not worried about fellow bears being encouraged to grass each other. They days when we were treated as fans of our club, and not seen as a cash cow for our club. The sad thing is, that we are only wanted for our cash, as that is what football is all about. The best days of following our club have now gone, and we are only a shell of a great Institution, ruined by money and greed.,It’s a great post and really stayed with me and got me thinking about where Rangers have been and where we are going. Well, it got me all melancholy and one of the verses from The Lord of the Rings came to mind. I don’t know why but I was an avid reader of it as a 12/13 year old and I guess it just stuck. I later wrote a dissertation on the novel when I was 17/18.The verse is called the Lament for the Rohirrim. Aragorn actually speaks the words in the book but it was also included in the recent film adaptation ”The two Towers” as King Theoden reflects on the possible downfall of his kingdom. The original words are here: http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Lament_for_the_Rohirrim I have altered it somewhat for the following:Lament for the Rangers“Where now are Greig and Baxter? Where is the crowd that was roaring?Where are the Goalie and Gazza, and the passing game flowing?Where is the Coop on the wing, with the red away strip glowing?Where is Ally in the middle, and the tall Hateley scoring? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow; The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow.Who shall hear the noise of the Copland Rd singing?Or behold the flowing support from Ibrox returning?”

pcbear 10,932
"we are only a shell of a great institution"I certainly dont think that andi wish some would look forward to the future with positivity, times have changed for sure, but supporting the bears during the tims 9 iar was hardly a barrell of fun. Better get used to change as it's a Universal constant! Fucking clowns think that without the bigotry supporting Rangers is devalued.....Sad cunts!! Never mind whether we can sing certain songs (as though that is what being a Rangers fan is about)not defeatist. But I cant help thinking that - particularly if we stay in Scotland - we will diminish in stature. Its only been 20 years since we were the envy of all the clubs in the UK, now we lose out on signing players to English Championship clubs. I dont see that changing anytime soon.I didn't mention any songs btw, I really dont care what people sing.

JCDBigBear 11,049
Totally agree with others on here that the original post is depressing and defeatist. From this entire fiasco, there have been certain major plus points, things that should ensure we have a smile on our faces as we help our Club recover:Rangers Football Club has survived. We still have all our trophies, titles and history. The fans have gathered and stood by the Club when others would have simply given up.We have a new board who will be truly answerable to the shareholders. It was more the tone of Mistrals post rather than the song element in particular though. People can sing what they want I really dont care. Fucking clowns think that without the bigotry supporting Rangers is devalued.....Sad cunts!! I've watched it change for 45 years and have enjoyed the majority of the changes immensely.what do you think made rangers the instituion it is today? Without the support of orange halls and local masonic clubs, who have passed our club down from generation to generation all accross the UK as a bastion of brittishness ,we would never have became the size of club we are today. this has nothing to do with bigotry as you put it but the fact we are a brittish loyalist club and act as a family for all with the same passion for loyalty and freedom. Without the thousands who travel from ireland and england we would be a just a football club like all the rest. In 45 years you have been lucky enough to follow, we have always aimed to be the best at everything we do, now there is a real threat of losing that to become the most profitable at what we do. I for one will not get used to that.
AlBear. 8,499
This is an open forum and conflicting opinions that can be debated on is what its all about. But, anyone who doesn't see the positives in us building a sustainable financial model for our future is fucking at it, and at it hard. How do you think we got to where we are as the worlds most successful club? It wasn't on a wave of love and songs. No, it was because we have a large loyal fan base that has been willing to pay their hard earned to help the club to those successes. Now we have a board intent on getting the club to make money, add that to the loyal supporters forking out aswell and we are on to bigger and better than before. Now dry your eyes, lift up your skirt and buy a fuckin scarf. trublusince1982 768
having a sound financial footing doesnt mean you have to chase every penny open to us at any cost, since as you say we have a large support who are more than willing to stick their hands in their pockets. This becomes especially true when we as a support can see encouraging developments to the footballing side of the club not just the financial. Would much rather see us doing work on bringing the correct sort of scouting infrastructure to fruition instead of selling that off to a sports development company for pennies. When all you do is chase the money everything else starts to crumble. So i ask Charles green to put as much effort into the footballing side of our club as he does to the bank balance, and i promise him in the long run it will make the club more money than chasing the nickles and dimes we are the now. I find it strange that so many fans are happy for comments from our CEO saying he has nothing to do with the football side of the club. He stated that it is down to mccoist to put in place the infrastructure he wants, that for me is a copout, he was happy enough to take £250,000 for the title of sports development director, with no mention of what he put in place or what power the sports development director has especially when this position was bought for the benifit of his company. Managers come and go and when they do the club should still be able to find and develop players of its own accord for nothing more than footballing merit
