Green: Current squad is worst ever

Recommended Posts

CHARLES GREEN says Ally McCoist’s side is the worst in Rangers’ history.

The Ibrox chief executive gave a typically frank assessment of McCoist’s team – but insisted the Gers boss has his full backing. Despite cantering towards the Third Division title with a 23-point lead, Green admits the quality on show at times has fallen well below standard.

He said: “This is probably the worst Rangers team you have ever seen.

“Nobody is happy, the fans aren’t happy, the board isn’t happy and Ally McCoist isn’t happy.

“Ally’s hands are tied and can’t sign players.

“It has been a real adjustment with the standard, the pitches – and the players are all big enough to put their hands up and admit at certain times they haven’t performed.

“We have a guy here who all of his life has dreamed of being Rangers manager. He achieves that dream and within six months the chairman flees and there’s no chief executive.

“The finance director is gone and he’s reporting to Duff and Phelps the administrator.

“We have a situation where players are being thrown together.

“But the responsibility for the team lies with Ally McCoist and myself as chief executive.

“I’m backing him and the board is supporting him to get through this situation.

“He’s judged on his performance and at the moment he’s leading the league by 23 points and he’ll get us promoted.

“I don’t need to give a lecture to Ally McCoist as to the standards that are required at Rangers.”

what do we make of this? a tad harsh?

Ask yourself where they would be in the SPL?

It really wasn't the right thing to say. I believe the majority of fans who are booing (I don't agree with the booing) are doing so because the team don't look as if they are trying. It is irrelevant if they are the best or the worst. It's looks like they can't be bothered half the time.

Unneeded IMO.

He's not wrong though, but it's pretty much common sense that we'd have the worst team we've ever had. We are in the 4th tier of Scottish football, any other year we are fighting for the title and trying to get into Europe.

Can we really criticise CG for telling it how it is?

We all praise him for it when it's things we want to hear.

If the players aren't motivated they shouldn't be there. They need to have a good look at themselves and ask if they are happy with their performances.

Harsh but correct.

I could understand some of the indifferent performances before xmas after all the summer trauma and the time it takes for SPL players to adjust to a lower level and weekly cup finals, etc.

But we are in March now and some of the players are still under performing.

The results are fine but some of the displays are indefensible.

It was the only comment yesterday during the interview that I felt was a bit uncalled for. Perhaps true but to say it in public isn't nice for Ally or the players.

Well there was the weird one about his eyebrows soaking from his tears! Wtf

Again this has been taken out of context....he was being asked about ally and weather or not his job was safe and he was defending him....it may not have been the best thing for him to say but is he wrong? This is the worst team in my lifetime, playing the worst football I have witnessed at Ibrox....at least our CEO acknowledges this isn't good enough and just winning division 3 (which some seem happy with) isn't enough for us.

He is right

If the players don't like it they know what to do. Prove they aren't garbage.

The pussy footing around our players and management at times is embarrassing

They are paid a lot of money to do better than they are. A few of them need a good kick up the arse. I have no problem with his comments at all.

judging by the Inverness and Dundee Utd games im guessing we would be pretty low down. but if we hadn't been thrown out the SPL, we wouldn't have lost so many players

Agreed, but CG is commenting on the here and now, not what might have been.

Might be the worst team in our history, but the players we have should all be on another level compared to those we are up against.

As mentioned already, it's the fight that seems to be lacking. I'll support the team whatever the players but I would like to see them put up the fight and will to win that has seen previous groups of players through.

Don't see the benefit of these comments though.

In the heat of the moment I'm as guilty as the next man, probably more than many, for saying something and quickly regretting having said it. It happens to us all....but none of us are the C.E.O. of Rangers Footbal Club.

Charles Green has been a breath of fresh air at our club and has defended us (the fans) when others in the past have sat in silence, but Chic needs to learn when to say nothing....zip.....zero.

This was one of those times.

Ill-advised stuff.

I don't have a problem with what he said, because I don't think he was being critical of the players as individuals, more so in a team sense and the way they have not gelled.

In fact, I'm sure Ally has 100% agreed with him and players should listen to what CG and Ally say on the subject, because it's true.Hopefully it will shake some of these players from their lethargy, because their attitude has been abysmal and certainly not what is required from a Rangers player, no matter what division we are playing in.

I am also believing that some of these players we have brought in at a rush have this attitude because they know Ally is hamstrung in his choice of who he has been able to play, therefore are just going through the motions quite happy knowing they have a 99% chance of being in the squad and pick up a handsome wage in doing so.

If this is the big kick up the arse they need to get them moving, then it's fine by me. :pipe:

When they pull on the light blue jersey they are the best we have at the moment, they may not be the best we have ever had, buy they are still Rangers players. Rangers players who answered the call in our clubs hour of greatest need.

History may forget many of our current team, but as a Rangers supporter I won’t, thanks guy’s for being there when we needed you most.

He is certainly right about it being the worst rangers team in history. Well it's certainly the worst in the past 30 years.

However I don't buy into this not being able to sign players remark. We signed 8 or 9 players last summer, not to mention the boys who stepped up from the under 19s. The coaches and management are the biggest factor in the poor standard of player and performances in my opinion.

Harsh on the lads out playing for us but definitely true. I don't see how making this statement helps though. Our squad is half promising young players and half people who were free agents for a reason, besides a couple of real quality developed players (McCulloch, Little, Shiels, Templeton, Wallace).

As I said previously I don't see how this statement helps our club or supporters in any way. It would demotivate me if I was a Gers player to hear this.

Certainly hits the nail on the head.

We could have won this league without

Kyle £3000 a week

Black £5000

Sandaza £5000

Carbari £5000

A combined yearly salary of £936,000

He should write a book on how to piss away 1 million, he sanctioned the signings.
