The big question looming for all Rangers supporters!

Recommended Posts

My workmate reliably informed me yesterday that the Turin Rhats were singing two in a row eight more to go.

There is no doubt that our spectacular fall has giving the Mhanks are deep rooted feeling of superiority. A champions league run that has raked in millions and a squad which has a few saleable assets merely confirm that. Couple that with the rapidly congregated squad of Rangers players and the yawning gap is there for all to see.

The next 2-3 years is going to be vital in how we recover from this situation and not only significantly close the gap but become the premier team in Scotland again. This battle is going to take place mainly off the field of play. Ally is going to have to steadily craft a squad of players that will have to hit the ground running when it re-enters the top division. He will need to carefully select the right blend of players and use whatever funds he is giving very, very wisely.

Charles Green and his merry men (and Walter has to come to the fore here) have to both create funds whilst building a lasting and sustainable football strategy that ultimately succeeds on the field of play. Signs are good with the share issue and revenue strategies already planned or in place.

The other area were this battle may be decided is among the supporters of both teams. And here I can proudly state that no such yawning gap exists. In fact, if truth be told the gap that exists is IMHO in our favour! However, are we going to maintain that advantage? And fellow Bears, at this point, I put the big question to you.

WOULD YOU PAY SPL RATES FOR YOUR SEASON TICKET OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS?

I've noted already mixed opinions on this but let me put this in layman's language. If we sold 40,000 ST over the next two years then the difference in revenue created is startling! At the moment, I would estimate that the average price for a man, concession and child season ticket is around £200 a head. That's a cool £16m over the next couple of seasons. If we paid SPL prices, I would estimate that price rising to approx £350 a head. That figure now become £28m.

That's an extra £12m to enable us to bridge this gap.

Now I know some fans are going to come on here and say " I can't afford that at the moment" or "I'm not prepared to pay SPL prices in Div 1/Div2" and that's fine. Everyone's circumstances and opinions should be respected. But remember two things - Ross County fans for example pay approx £5-6 a game more than us and the clock is ticking and that song they sung the other night might grow arms and legs unless we hit the ground running in the next couple of years.

WILL YOU DIG DEEP BEARS?

I thought we were in excellent financial health? And this should improve over next couple of years. Why do we need to throw more money about to solve everything?

A massive part of this seasons attendances has been affordability, particularly for kids. Hump up the prices and I think that would drop off and attendances would fall. You would get your hardcore that would do it, but the floating fans would drift away.

We pay far too much in this country anyway, my ST was about over £400 for this season.

DEFINITELY.

Purchased a season ticket this season even though through serious illness I have only been able to make 2 games.

My dad lives in Hong Kong, but he bought a ST this season "just in case" he could get back for a game. He hasn't been able to afford to get back though.

It's all we can do to affect our club for the better. This is where I'd hope all those saying people might not renew next season, because the football is poor atm, start looking at the bigger picture.

Hope you're not too bad and on the mend ODC.

I'm fine now mate thanks very much. Going to the Clyde and Berwick home games in April and May.

Season ticket prices may have to go up as we could be playing spl teams this time next season in the new league set up.

If Rangers are in the 2nd tier of a 12-12-18 which would then split into an 8-8-8 midway through the season and we could be playing Abergreen or Dundee hibs in league football sooner than we thought.

My guess is prices would have to go up to bring in better players.

If it was all about the money then Rangers would have won everything in the last 30 odd years, all this rubbish that the cancer from the east end of Glasgow will qualify for the Champions League, and win every domestic league title for the next ten years, it’s just mhedia propaganda.

Players and coaches win football matches, and to say that Rangers won’t have the players to compete for the next ten years or so is just Timmy wishful thinking.

PS Just wait and see the furore when they get knocked out of Europe in July of this year!

Throwing money about to win things is what got us in this mess in the first place. And guarantees nothing.

Developing our coaching and scouting system would be cheaper, more beneficial, and would do a much better job.

Exactly, with the SPL becoming even more of a diddy league and with second and third place teams gaining access to europe (but getting pumped right outta it). You can see the coefficient being dragged right down. In turn resulting in more qualifying rounds to overcome. European football is not guaranteed for them every year.

I think domination for the next 8 years is a big ask for the unwashed green and greys.

1 - The quality of their squad will reduce over the next couple of years and they'll struggle to afford to replace them with reduced revenues

2 - Remember they were on their knees in 1995 (they seem to have airbrushed that out of their history). They were back challenging within a couple of years of that. Ok, we have the added issue of a couple of years out of the top division, but after1-2 years back in the top league we'll be champions again. I make that no more than 5 or 6 in a row for them.

3- Who's to say a team outwith Celtic can't win the league? It's not like Celtic are winning every week? (A bit ambitious I know)

And worst case scenario, 9or 10 tainted titles in a row are completely meaningless without us!

But we have refused to do that.

There is no need to hike the prices up above the percentage rise, as we rise through the leagues, already discussed....it is more important at the moment to encourage a new generation of rangers fans to come along every week....having the prices low has allowed alot more families to attend and to raise the prices radically will price alot of these fans out and lead to us potentially losing a generation....

I think it is so important that at this stage in our building process we develop how we play and the type of players we produce so that those fans attending are entertained and will bring their mates, Byrd or kids along....some of you really do miss just how much impact the lacklustre, unimaginative and at times clueless performances could have on us!

Celtic will win the next 5 titles in my opinion and I can live with that....in five years we should (if we do things right) have a much better structure in place for youth and player recruitment/development.

There seems to be this perception we will need millions to get a team to win back our title, that's just not true...how much did the Celtic squad cost to build?? What we need to do us get the finger out and sort our scouting and coaching and stop overpaying for mediocracy!

Like alot of you I would pay for my ticket regardless but alot of folk not in the financial position to justify paying x amount for a ticket when playing so poorly whilst overpaying players who seem disinterested at the lower level.
