We're Not That Bad

Recommended Posts

ALLY McCOIST last night launched a staunch defence of his Third Division champions elect.

Ibrox chief executive Charles Green branded the team the club’s worst ever.

But McCoist won’t hear a bad word about his side.

The Gers boss said: “There will be debate about the comment but I’m certainly not going to endorse it.

“If someone had asked me if I’d take being 20 points clear at the beginning of March? Are you kidding me on? I’d have bitten their hand off.

“We’ve a squad of players who are doing exactly what’s asked of them.

“At the start of the season it was shambolic through no fault of anybody’s. But the objective then was to get out of the division.

“The bottom line is the players, who have been fabulous in their willingness to learn, have got us 20 points clear in a league.

“Is what Charles said an insult to them? It probably is if it’s right. But with the greatest respect, no one knows if it’s right or not. I wouldn’t have a clue if it’s right.

“What I do know is having worked with the players every day is that they’re giving it their absolute best. That’s all you can ask for as a manager.”

Gers have drawn at home twice and been held away four times. They also lost at Stirling and are out of all three cups. McCoist — without the crocked David Templeton for today’s clash with Annan — said: “Where we are, with the preparation and what we’ve had to do, isn’t a disaster.

“If we were playing fantastic every week and were two points behind would that be a problem? It would be a massive one.”

McCoist confirmed SunSport’s exclusive that Motherwell midfielder Nicky Law is a target.

The Gers boss has also been linked with Middlesbrough’s Andre Bikey and he added: “Nicky’s a player whose contract situation we’re aware of.

“Bikey is a player we’re interested in.”

Gers last night played down reports linking them with Central American pair Alan Pulido and Arnold Peralta.

SunSport understands Honduran midfielder Peralta isn’t on their radar while there are likely to be too many obstacles — including compensation — involved in signing Mexican Pulido.

I think it has. In fact, we've been too kind at times.

Think we play good football in patches mid to front.

The defense is hopeless and Alexander has cost us at least a few points.

But ive left games being jus us content as watching us beat teams like st mirren of Falkirk in the past.

will be looking for an improvement next season when Ally hopefully gets backed on a few bosmans and perhaps a wee bit of cash spent in January,

But i dont think in the majority of home games we have been bad

Hmmm. The interview i heard had ally saying that CG was correct in what he said.

ALLY McCoist’s immediate goals are to get the Third Division title wrapped up and then set about tying down some new signings.

The manager was speaking at the end of a week in which Rangers announced impressive interim figures.

And Ally also made it clear that he and chief executive Charles Green are on the same wavelength about what has to be done to improve the team.

"Where we are at the moment is ok, it’s not great and it’s not a disaster, but in the grand scheme of things it’s ok," he said.

"We will make progress this season hopefully by winning the league and getting out of the division. We can then regroup and we can hopefully bring in one or two players who can help the assembled squad move on again.

"That’s the ideal scenario, to strengthen and get back to the level we all want to reach."

The manager received strong backing in a radio interview from Mr Green, who made it clear Ally knows what is required.

"It goes with the territory to be fair," Ally added "but I would far rather have my position discussed when we are 20 points clear than 20 points behind, that’s for sure.

"But I speak to Charles on a regular basis and I listened to the interview yesterday. I would have to say he was completely and totally supportive as I am of him."

This. Watch the interview on RangersTV.....it never ceases to amaze me the "creative license" the press take with what someone actually says and worse still the general public still lap it up like its gospel.

I think this season was all about getting out the division as quickly and efficiently as we could, and we've done that . I know we all want (and with the money we pay should) be playing better football but this is a brand new squad of players , no pre season ,playing in a totally different environment where every games a cup final for the opposition .the players that's disappointed me are the spl players wev signed black, sheils, sandaza, but we know they have the talent wev seen it before . the youngsters have impressed me, macloud especially, and mackay Crawford naismith n hemmings have all the potential in the world not forgetting Cole who I think could be an excellent centre half for us . sort out the defense which has been noticed as a weak point by the management and I think we'll see a big improvement next season

From a skill point of view this is the least talented team in my years of watching The Rangers, but given what happened to us and where we are this has got to be expected, that said of the players we have at the moment how many would we pick every week to challenge for the spl title week in week out when we arrive back at the top.

Ally tell that to black, temps and shiels. Ffs man. Stop being a fucking mate to them and be their manager. Pin the cunts up against the wall and demand more. They cant, temp and black, pass the ball to a blue jersey.. Now if thats them giving it their best, then we really are in trouble.

Does anyone really think that Ally would come out and publicly slaughter his players? He has to back them in public as he has to get the best out of them.

Privately it may be another matter where as one poster suggested Ally does pin one or two up against a wall. Remember, Ally played for this club and went from a crisis of confidence to become our top scorer.

Ally also worked under one of the best man managers in Walter Smith so you can bet he's learned a thing or two about dealing with egos and personalities.

I would also suspect that privately(that word again!) Ally will have told Charles Green to butt out of making public remarks about his playing staff and to concentrate on doing the job he should be doing.

Ally comes across as a very nice guy but he is nobody's fool!

So ally says everyone of his players have given their absolute best? Really? I beg to differ.

With some of them, mate, this IS their best. That is why very few of these players will still be at Ibrox when we make it back to the top.

I think Ally is just doing some damage limitation with this interview.

CG was his usual forthright self in labelling them the worst ever but Ally has still got to get some sort of performance out of them so he's had to massage some egos.

There is no doubt CG was a lot closer to the truth, though.

Come on,bud.Think it through.

We dont want Super lambasting these guys in the papers giving the orcs more wank material.

He will be kicking ass in private,I'm sure.

And,I think Ally will know better than any of us that most of these players wont make it long term at Rangers.

Zero chance Ally would do that.

He'd have his Jotters ASAP

Green is giving him more than his fair chance. It's up to him to manage his team and get us playing proper football.

Green was badly miss quoted, he never said this was the worst ever, he said some might say this is the worst team ever...big difference.

We all know Rangers are not top quality SPL standard...yet, our play isn't pretty but neither is the league we're playing in and yes Ally has to do better if we want to progress

If you mean that players like Black, Shiels, Sandaza and Templeton are not capable of any more than they've shown against part timers who work normal jobs and play football for a hobbie, i must disagree they are capable of so much more, yes they are not a patch on Rangers players of yesteryear but compaired to our amature opponents they are supposed to be a different class.

The way I look at it is that we were always going to be unimpressive this season. We are a long term project. I fully expect us to improve as we move up the leagues, signing better players as we go with our youngsters continuing to develop and cementing their places in the team.

Obviously our general performance this season has been poor, but I am sure we will see a big improvement with progression towards the top.
