Jon-the-Stripe 2,458
Just read on Twitter Irene has passed away, can anyone confirm this.Irene used to serve the players food on matchdays i believe. Irene's sister Tiny still does the Ibrox Tours as a guide.I’m sure the family connection goes back three or four generations – someone in her family has probably worked for Rangers for the past 70 or 80 years!Goodnight Irene.....Fantastic Servant of Rangers Football Club..."She Didn't Do Walking Away"Condolences to all her family and friends. Rest In Peace IreneSource: Charlie Miller FA @charliemillerfaToo my lovely wee irene who worked at ibrox for her life died tonight loved her very sad love from all the rangers family and beyond irene x

Jon-the-Stripe 2,458
RANGERS manager Ally McCoist has paid tribute to Irene Love who passed away last night after a short battle with illness.Irene spent four decades working for the club and was a familiar face for McCoist throughout his days as both player and coach as she continued a family association with Rangers that spanned three generations. The family initially began working for the club in the early 1930s when both Irene’s grandmothers, Margaret Love and Mary Martin, then later her mother, Lizzie Love began as laundry staff, washing the players' strips and training kit as well as preparing meals for the directors and players on match days. Irene joined the club in 1973, six years after her sister Tiny, who to this day acts as a guide on official tours of Ibrox. McCoist said: “This is devastating news and our thoughts are with Irene’s family and friends at this difficult time.“Irene worked for Rangers for just under 40 years but her association with the club was a lot longer than that and she shared so many good times with us.“She was a great character, always full of life and had a great sense of humour and we will all really miss her. “Everyone at Rangers loved Irene and it is hard to imagine match days without her. “I went to see her with Walter, Durranty and Laura Tarbet a few days ago and despite her illness she still had her sense of humour and her bravery was evident. “She was a special lady from a special family and will always be in our thoughts.”The Light Blues boss confirmed his side will wear black armbands in Saturday’s match with Elgin City and at Ibrox on March 23 in tribute to a lifelong servant of the club.He added: “The players will wear black armbands at Saturday’s game with Elgin and also at our next game at Ibrox in her honour.”
