Well said.

Got this when listening to the Margaret Thatcher debate. Thatcher has this reputation as a hard nosed, confrontational politician and even Russell Brand wrote an eye rolling column about how he felt sorry for her children.

However when Parliament and the Lords spoke this week Lord Jopling spoke about how Thatcher invited any people in the Commons who were going to be alone at Christmas to chequers as she didn't want them to be alone at this time of year.

Lord Young also told a tale about how when a waiter spilt something on Young's wife at a dinner they were all at Thatcher grabbed Lord Young's wife and told her not to complain or the waiter would lose his job.

I think we need to recall that when we see these figures in public they are at all times and doing a job and we shouldn't presume to know or dismiss them as human beings when we never get to see or only partially get to see a personal side to them (tu)
