TAFKA 545
Would like to see Queens Park get promoted for more trips to the national stadium On the subject of the national stadium, why were the Scottish Cup semis played behind closed doors? jintybear 8,750
Think Airdrie are one of few teams we've never playedThe last time I was at Airdrie was Mo Johnstone's first game for Rangers(I think it was his first game anyway) I'll never forget the abuse he got! allgers 735
Airdrie are a newco formed in 2002, after they went into liquidation they followed a different route from us to gain entry to the SFL.We played them at Murray park in july.Boss Ally McCoist and No 2 Kenny McDowall watched from the training-ground balcony as Gers beat Airdrie United last night.Security men at Murray Park outnumbered the players’ kids who looked on as Lewis McLeod and Lee Wallace scored the first goals of the new Gers era.Ian Durrant was the man in the dugout as a Rangers side in all-white strips were always on top against Jimmy Boyle’s side.Lee McCulloch had already gone close before youngster McLeod fired Gers in front with a powerful 20-yard drive after 15 minutes.Kirk Broadfoot went close with a header before Gers increased their lead when Wallace turned the ball home in a goalmouth scramble eight minutes before the interval. The Diamonds had ex-Dundee United stopper Garry Kenneth at the heart of their defence and he enjoyed a physical tussle with McCulloch. The experienced striker led his line well with Alejandro Bedoya playing off him, and saw a header just after the hour well saved by Airdrie’s trialist keeper.Scott Gallacher replaced Neil Alexander in the Gers goal as the Third Division new boys stayed in control. But he was beaten when Airdrie pulled one back from the penalty spot and Gallacher was then forced into a good stop as Airdrie battled for an equaliser.Kal Naismith and Matt Clark replaced Andy Mitchell and Robbie Crawford for Gers late on.The referee had to warn an Airdrie player for a comment about Rangers being a ‘Third Division team’ but they held on to win.RANGERS: Alexander (Gallacher); Cole, Broadfoot, Hegarty, Wallace, Mitchell (Clark), Hutton, McLeod, Crawford (Naismith), Bedoya, McCulloch. Oso 122
pompii was buried by lavaNot quite true. Pompeii was buried by a pyroclastic flow, best described as red hot dust that flows like a liquid until it settles. Had Pompeii been buried in lava it would have been destroyed completely and would not be able to have been excavated.
Ozblue 4,332
Arveladze made his debut against Airdrie in the League Cup.Fair enough. I had not long got back from Scotland when Shota signed for us and we didn't get Scottish football here at that time,so I didn't know we had played Airdrie since around that period. mps02 14
Speaking as an Ayr fan, I am looking forward to playing you next season, you will have some cracking games. Let us hop that Dungcaster and his cronies cannot manage to fanny-up an SPL 2.
allgers 735
Airdrie are not a 'newco' they are clydebank fc, with a changed name and relocation.Yeah, that was the different route, its strange what do you actually call them, apart from Airdrie obviously. they don't claim Clydebanks history. The former company went into liquidation and a new company was formed to carry on Airdrie, hence newco. Unlike Rangers there's no club continuity, always wondered why they weren't dragged out more to beat us up,Traynors an Airdrie supporter so wonder what he thinks, this might have something to do with his initial stance Rangers are a new club. I think he has come to realise he was wrong.

JCDBigBear 10,988
Think he means Airdrie united are different from airdrieoniansAirdrie now is the same club as Airdrie from away back. The fans are the club and how they use a corporate vehicle to retain their club and keep it in existence is irrelevant. Everybody accepts that the "new" Airdrie is a continuation of the "old " Airdrie.

TheFarmer 260
Everybody accepts that the "new" Airdrie is a continuation of the "old " Airdrie.Actually the vast majority don't accept that. Even among their own fans.An Airdrieonians fan killed Clydebank FC to create a new club in his town Airdrie United FC (They now just call themselves Airdrie FC). Yes, new club.No similarities to the Rangers situation whatsoever.
Dutchy 1,200
After yesterdays vote not to implement any of the mad reconstruction plans, I'm hoping this will give a wee boost to our season ticket sales next season.I feared that if we were forced to play all the same teams again ST sales would have taken a hit.Instead, we're moving on up! GersAvA92 53
Looking forward to it, the players can get a good pre-season under their belts with hopefully some new faces in amongst them. They do not claim to be the same club. You may want to talk about rangers but if your going to post incorrect facts people will correct you.Thing is mate, sometime's when you post correct facts people will correct you.Don't know what your concept of a new company is, Airdrieonians were liquidated in 2002, the Entire board either resigned or sadly passed away. An Airdrieonian fan, Jim Ballantyne, decided to form a totally new company to manage a totally new team, Airdrie United, when they were denied entry to the league in favour of Gretna they bought Clydebank, changing the name to Airdrie United.I agree there are no similarities between Rangers and Airdrie, Savco Scotland bought all the Assets, history and name from the Administrators. Airdrie United had no connection to Airdrieonions as all assets were liquidated, Airdrie United do not even own the Excelsior stadium.

There was no new company in Airdrie United's case, the company that run Airdrie United (Airdrie United Football Club Limited) was incorporated in 1970 and only changed name (from CLYDEBANK FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED) and relocated, in 2002, it wasn't a new company, I don't know why you keep using the term 'newco' when talking about Airdrie. In Rangers case Sevco Scotland Limited bought all of the business and assets of The Rangers Football Club Plc, including Rangers FC. (See SPL commission documents and D&P sale documents and those are the exact words used). Rangers aren't a 'newco' they were bought by a new company.
