JCDBigBear 11,050
You don't just judge a manager when things are going well. The time to judge is when it is all going wrong and then the manager changes tactics, etc. When such changes work regularly you can usually see you have a good manager. When the manager makes changes which don't work, or doesn't make changes, or waits far too long before making changes then you know it just isn't working for him and it's time for a change. Today was exceptional and I'm sure we all enjoyed it but today is no yardstick for Ally's managerial qualities. For my part, Ally still has a long way to go before I will consider him as a good manager. To be entirely honest, I would have replaced him over a year ago. Actually, I would never have given him the job without him having proved his skills at another club. The difference between you (others) and myself is that I don't consider Ally's legendary status when I consider his managerial ability.

The difference between you (others) and myself is that I don't consider Ally's legendary status when I consider his managerial ability. You are certainly boiling how to judge a manager down quite dramatically there. People could interpret that as saying that winning games doesn't count unless you come from behind, scouting isn't important, training doesn't matter, pre-game tactics, etc. I'm sure you don't mean that. With specific regard to Ally, when things are going wrong and he changes them, many seem to cling to the fact that he had to change things as a sign that he made mistakes in the first place. Arbroath for example.

Mr. Struth would have been happy with "his boys" if they played like that - which they very often did. Everyone gave 100%, and that is the minimum standard when you play for the Rangers. There is no reason that those players cannot destroy Ayr United in the same fashion. The manager must ensure he demands the same level of performance out of them, and maybe then the manager can start to prove he has what it takes to catch Inverness CT and Celtic at the top of the Premiership in two years time. But if you really want to go down that route, I will.Once again players played of position. Luckily they played well, although you could tell Peralta wasn't a right sided midfielder, still he played well enough.I'll tell you the main reason we won so convincingly. Stenhousemuir played such a high line we were cutting through them like a knife. Their tactics led to their own downfall. Blacks passing was superb and was creating chance after chance for us because they kept pushing their backline so high for the full 90 minutes. Absolute pointless really. But I'll tell you what I was disappointed with, the substitutions. Because they were playing such a high line the game was made for a wide player with pace, so why didn't he bring McKay on? We were cruising this was a chance to give him some confidence. All in all, one great performance from the team against part timers, doesn't mean he's a great manager ffs. It's a start, let's see what happens away from home to Ayr next weekend?
bluesbro1976 162
Ally a good manager??? Ffs, a simple point and i will say no more, every man defending at corners. Ffs, not even amatuer teams do that. Where on earth did he see this 'tactic' when achieving his pro licence ?? Ajax, munich, madrid? So we clear the ball, and then guess what?? It gets pumped back in. So u are automatically increasing the danger of the opposition scoring twofold but not having a player there as an outlet. Simple stuff, good manager? Aye right.
