Rangers have hosted their own Armed Forces Day at Ibrox

Hundreds of members of the Armed Forces came to the stadium for the club's 8-0 defeat of Stenhousemuir.

The official Armed Forces Day is held in June each year, but the Glasgow club decided to have their own event during the football season.

Around 400 members of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army, and Royal Air Force packed the stands to watch the match, as well as giving out information about their work.

An army band also entertained fans by striking up on the pitch.

Major General Nick Eeles, General Officer Commanding Scotland said: “Today saw Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel from, amongst others, the Naval Bases at Faslane and Rosyth. British Army personnel from units throughout Scotland including both Regular and Army Reserve soldiers.

And the Royal Air Force was represented by personnel from RAF Leuchars and RAF Lossiemouth.

"They brought with them a number of stands which were set up outside the stadium and demonstrated what the Armed Forces do to protect the United Kingdom.

“In conclusion, I very much hope that today’s inaugural AFD day at Rangers Football Club will be repeated annually for many years to come, and that it will give an appropriate opportunity to show support for today’s generation of selfless, committed and courageous Armed Forces personnel, all of whom are enormously proud to serve their Queen and their country."
