The BBC and Rangers - who's really boycotting who?

As you well know, Rangers have the biggest audience and support in Scotland by far, not only in Glasgow/West of Scotland, but throughout the country (and beyond).

It has also been clearly shown this season and last that support of Rangers and interest in them has not diminished even given their current circumstances, as shown by consistently strong stadium attendances and strong TV viewing figures.

This clearly shows that irrespective of their current League positioning, they are still a major footballing force, of major interest to their many hundreds of thousands of supporters in Scotland, and of interest to the majority of the country, fans and non-fans alike.

Would you not then expect, demand even, that BBC should strive to fairly reflect the popularity of Rangers in its online news coverage of Scottish Football? Ensuring that clubs are given proportionally appropriate coverage based on the size of their support, and therefore their interest to large sections of the population would seem to be the policy in the rest of BBCs sports' coverage in Britain. Certainly other big British Clubs have increased news coverage based on their higher levels (and distribution) of support.

Well let’s take a look at today’s BBC Sottish Football News homepage (I know, but if you pinch your nose, it’s almost bearable)…

http://www.bbc.co.uk...tball/scottish/

I notice a few things. Such as:

  1. The main story, the top two headlines, the first (of two) videos, and the first of two ‘top stories’ are about one club. No need to name them. That's 5 items, out of the first 10 items visible on the webpage when viewed with a typically sized monitor.
  2. There are 17 headlines. The 17th headline is “Rangers 8 – 0 Stenhousemuir” – obviously not a particularly interesting story
  3. The first sub-section which is featured on the page (positioned higher than the fixtures, tables, results, gossip) is entitled “c*lt*c's Champions League tilt” and consists of a whopping 15 c*lt*c headlines. It’s almost beginning to feel like the c*lt*c homepage. Does anyone remember Rangers, when they were ‘carrying the torch’ in Europe, getting a whopping 15 headline section dominating the page?
  4. (This is the one that prompted me to make the post) - After noticing all that, I decided to do a word search on the two club names on the page. Here are the results:
c*lt*c – 28
Rangers 2

- Something seems just not quite right there somehow.

Is a stadium (incidentally with more people in it than every other stadium in the country combined) full of visiting army top brass, abseiling marines, military pipe bands and 400 squaddies 'invading' the pitch, (oh and not forgetting an 8 (eight)-0 victory) not newsworthy enough?

Now the BBC will answer this with “Rangers are playing in the 3rd tier and receive a level of coverage commensurate with that level of football and the mhanks are 'carrying the torch in europe'” – but as I pointed out above, the BBC as a publicly-funded body have that obligation to ensure that they are churning out their dire content appropriate to the interests of the population(s).

No surprise to be honest, but the biggest supporting club in the country receiving minuscule coverage is pathetic.

Hopefully then, the amount of 'hits' the BBC Scotland sports pages receive take a nosedive and they get pulled up for the lack of traffic.

Wishful thinking, perhaps.

If you can face it, the Rangers page on the BBC website has only one "photo gallery", named 'Rangers: The Players' Moves'.

This is a gallery mostly of those who walked out on the club, but includes the two Lees and Kyle Hutton (umm...they didn't move!).

No surprise that the same-old agenda appears in Jig's caption: 'The experienced Lee McCulloch indicated he would transfer his contract to a relaunched Rangers if the old club could not be saved.' (My bold)

Will they ever get the message or are they just playing chicken with the BBC Trust decision?

Hope Rangers keep things like this in mind a few years from now when we are back in the spfl prem.

We should tell them to GTF and not give them any access to Ibrox for games against "them" or in Europe when we are back on top.

Keep it in mind?

The present board through media house gave the tarrier BBC rat McLaughlin an exclusive on Friday night.

The bigoted BBC should've been banned but won't, Chick Dung even compared a Rangers Charity Foundation Event in Ibrox a fkn rodent like that, but then again we have employed Jm Traynor (for what, who fkn knows)

The BBC will always have access to Ibrox, like the Daily Rebel do on a regular basis,we do not have the balls, we like to be everybody's pal.

The mentality has changed now for the support anyway, but the club's head is up their a#se, no longer will the support be taken for mugs, well until we see the accounts.

By law, Rangers could issue a letter to BBC, Daily Rhebel and any other Rangers hating media outlet stating they revoke their rights to any mention of Rangers on their website/newspaper and could issue an invoice (value of invoice dictated by Rangers themselves) for any mention that appears.

It's a bit far fetched I know, but given the amount of anti-rangers pieces I've seen over the years it would ruin them.

That and the hope all Rangers fans didn't click their site and give them hits or buy their rags then they would suffer like never before.

Maybe I'm just dreaming of revenge against these scumbags but it would be my action toward these clowns!!

What gets me is that since Rangers' official statement about their "shoddy journalism" (which incidentally didn't get reported on the BBC website as far as I can see) they don't seem to have allowed comments on any story about Rangers. What are they afraid of? Are they running scared ?

Used to have lots of respect for the BBC, now I find myself viewing AlJazeera News for more balanced reporting and a higher standard of investigative journalism.

Last week on the BBC's Dateline London I listened to a journalist ( I think from the Guardian) who made an unchallenged comment about and I paraphrase 'the IRA was a soft kind of terrorism (Her words)'. I am sure that must be of comfort to the thousands murdered by the IRA.

Bad enough she made the comment, worse that it was left unchallenged.
