Bluepeter9 5,167
Ok Sat was our first (Inaugral) 'Official' Armed Forces day - but I know we held a similar event last year, prior to that I know we had the troops on or around Rememberence day.Can anyone remember the date (or year) we first had the troops, and why? - I think it was about 5 years ago and I remember it being a fantastic day but don't have the actual details (which I would like for a wee discussion I am having at work). Thanks for any help. Guest
I remember the troops being there in 2009, pretty sure they were there before that.Just goes to show that these people are looking to be offended. Same with the famine song, we sung it for a year before they decided they were offended, weve had the troops at Ibrox the past 4 or 5 years and its taken them until now to take offense. Why is Fathers Advice only sectarian when a soldier sings it? Its been sung for years without a mention and now the soldiers sing it its deemed sectarian.

Sweetheart 8,458
Armed Forces Day (formerly Veterans' Day) in the United Kingdom is an annual event celebrated in late June to commemorate the service of men and women in the British Armed Forces. Veterans' Day was first observed in 2006.[1] Although an official event, it is not a public holiday in the UK. The name was changed to Armed Forces Day in 2009.Plans for a Veterans' Day were announced in February 2006 by then-Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, who said the aim was to ensure the contribution of veterans was never forgotten. The day is marked across the UK by local ceremonies and the presentation of medals to living ex-servicemen and women. The date of 27 June was chosen as it came the day after the anniversary of the first investiture of the Victoria Cross, in Hyde Park, London in 1857.[1]Veterans' Day was created as a permanent extension of Veterans' Awareness Week first held in 2005. In the UK it followed the model of theVeterans Day holiday in the United States which honours all military veterans and is both a federal holiday and a state holiday in all states.[1]On 25 June 2007, Jim Devine the Member of Parliament for Livingston, tabled a House of Commons Early Day Motion calling for the day to be a public holiday, stating "that this House recognises the outstanding contribution that veterans have made to the country; and believes that Veterans' Day should be a national public holiday across the United Kingdom."http://en.wikipedia....United_Kingdom) June is our closed season so i presume the date was postponed until a mutual date was agreed on for our open seasonthere is also an old video on Pathe of the king at ibrox with the troops in about 1930's he was there to celebrate empire day
Old No7. 852
The club also issue tickets to armed forces personnel via Tickets for Troops. It's on a ballot and you can only register if your in the military as the site registers your service and service number. Various EPL teams participate in this along with lower leagues.I have also been to European game in uniform as the club distributed the away team tickets as the club we were playing were not bringing any fans.
