Rangers v Tottenham 1962. This was Spurs greatest ever team. It looks like they were two great games. Lot of wingplay and headers from Gers. Although we lost looks like we made plenty chances.

Watch for the wee spurs guy at 49 seconds in with the glass pint tumbler, I can just remember in the 60s and 70s when everyone sneaked a few cans and a half bottle, with the occasional pint glass or whisky glass to make it more enjoyable.

I was at the home leg. It was postponed from the week before because of fog. Gubbed 3 2 One Jimmy Greaves got the opener

Brilliant video! I love the commentary. Spurs looked shit hot, although was it Dave Mackay trying to back heel into his own net?

The sea of caps at Ibrox. , the big fan banners, the players clapping each other off the field... everything seemed so pleasant and gentlemanly back then!

many thanks for posting. I was at the home game but hadn't seen the highlights since that night. The ball looked so bright that night. Spurs had a wonderful team but I always felt that it should have been a closer game - we played well on the night. Thanks again.

Danny Kelly was on TalkSport saying that this Spurs team was the greatest team ever. Apparently they played the beautiful game the way it should be played. Did they not win a European trophy with Blanchflower and a Scottish winger they called 'the Ghost?'

I have no idea. Too young to know.

I have also heard from my elders that the Rangers team in the early sixties were pretty hard to beat in terms of great football.

The Ghost was John White who was tragically killed on the golf course. Struck by lightning.

White was a brilliant player and a Scottish internationalist and only 27 when he died. He was an old fashioned inside left (midfielder in todays parlance) and was a prolific goalscorer.

He played in the same Spurs side as Blanchflower, Greaves and Dave Mackay yes it was a great team indeed.

Thanks for the information, mate. I did think the surname was White but couldn't be sure. I remember now the story of his untimely accident. That is indeed tragic.

Dave Mackay; another Scot who is legendary down those parts, eh? I read he was the archetypal hard-man on the pitch. I love that famous picture of him grabbing Billy Bremner by the collar.
