Do you think then SImon its acceptable to appease and acquiesce to the haters within their support ?

Absolutely not. I just don't think it's our place to shame these people. We should pay our respects, as we always do. If others don't wish to, that's their issue and their lack of class speaks louder than we ever could.

Furthermore this is an issue which must ascend Old Firm rivalry and the often tit for tat churlish and pedantic tribalism. It is time for the Scottish press and media to stop avoiding the issue and to speak out – ignoring it will not make it go away.

The following is from Ross County Official Site:

Ross County Football Club would like to sincerely apologise for the lack of a minute's silence at their match on Saturday the 9th of November ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

As a Club we are both honoured and humbled by the sacrifice of the men and women who have given of themselves for the benefit of others in times of war and conflict, particularly throughout the past 99 years and even more so as we approach the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

The lack of a minute's silence was not an operational or policy decision but an error of omission arising from a failure to address changes in staff responsibilities, and the matter is being dealt with internally.

The Club will continue in its policy of marking the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month with a 2 minute silence as well supporting the Poppy Appeal by allocating Matchday Collections at the Stadium to support their work in assisting veterans and will of course ensure measures are taken to avoid any possible repetition of our error on Saturday the 9th.

'Lest we forget'.

Well done D'Art. At least we can rely on you to point out where this country of ours is going wrong because I hold little hope that the MSM will do so.

I very much doubt that the chairman of Ross County was unaware of this . Did he not see the appeals advertised in the last few weeks, did he not notice kiosks with veterans selling poppies when he took his wife to the supermarket , or maybe he missed the trays of poppies in the shops when he went in for his daily paper. Did he forget , too , his own fans complaints about the Challenge Cup ?

How very convenient.

No. Like you say , this is more to do with ignoring a problem and hoping it will go away instead of facing head on. A sad indictment of our society today.

In a land where 'we forgot' becomes an acceptable reason for forgetting to remember then it is clear where the priorities are. They are with selfishness - money and self-importance are more important. An attitude of no respect then prevails. And 'forgetting' once becomes the trend and then the acceptated state. The slippery slope. And conveniently a process is then blamed for forgetting. Changes in duties. Not in a job description. Nobody gave the order to remember. Pathetic. Those who lead these clubs have a moral duty to lead. And with leadership comes accountability. And with accountability there should be a price to be paid for 'forgetting'. Blaming systems and processes is the cowards way out. Too neat and too convenient. And fundamentally not good enough.

'Lest we forget'. Well they did forget. And in my estimation it was wilfully forgetting. For if you lead your club and you care you do not forget. You just don't. Its as simple as that.

Ladies & Gentlemen...I think we have a winner.

Belter M

Thanks D.

On topic, of course people are free to not observe, in a way that's the point.

But people must be free to observe. They should be given the opportunity to do so if they attend any major event.

Folk can ignore it, stay outside, whatever if they don't like it.

Sadly we know that the taigs would not ignore it. They would attempt to disrupt it. But that is no reason to deny the opportunity to decent people.

Much as it goes against the grain - if people dont agree with it for whatever reason - that is their right.

I think what irks me so much on this one is that those who would have wanted to honour it have been prevented from doing so due to the likely behaviour of a section of the Celtic support.
