World Cup stadium collapses

Recommended Posts

Three people have been killed in an accident at a Sao Paulo stadium that is due to host the opening ceremony of the 2014 World Cup football.

A senior local fire official said crews were called to the Arena Corinthians after reports of a collapsed crane.

The crane fells on to the stadium, destroying parts of the stands.

The arena was due to be completed at the end of December to meet a Fifa deadline. Brazil has admitted it is struggling to have all 12 venues ready.

Must at least be doubts about Brazil hosting the World Cup after this surely?

the corrupt people at fifa would have been better staging it in england

Why do they never give it to countries who don't need to develop 4 and 5 new grounds? England would only need a few revamps and they'd be good to go

England have had the Champions League final 2 out of the last 3 years, they've had plenty

While that's a big event it's hardly the same as hosting a whole tournament.

England are well overdue another World Cup, most of the other established footballing countries like Germany have had more than one go.

they've also just hosted the Olympics. though I agree they probably have the best stadia in the world

Olympics is separate from the footballing authorties, Brazil have the next Olympics as well as the next World Cup.

I'm not saying they have a divine right to host a World Cup but when you consider Italy, Germany, France and Brazil have all done it twice it doesn't seem so right England have only done it once in 1966.

I think England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, Australia, USA, Japan, S Korea and probably many others would be capable of holding the World Cup without having to create new stadia. Uefa should start giving it to countries that are ready when the decision is made rather than countries which pass the thickest brown envelopes.
