siddiqi_drinker 14,635
If you want an apprenticeship, go to Rangers. If you want a real job go elsewhere. We have never been a club that cultivates the youth and brings them on long term to provide the club with a supply of players. Most that have come through last maybe 2-3 years max. We are a crap club in terms of bringing through our own players that last long in the big league. We want to buy players not build a team from scratch. This is in part due to the demands of the fans coupled with a lazy ineffective scouting and coaching system at youth level. Managers like Ally and Walter plus Rangers board members, past and present, are like bankers 'driven by tomorrows results and their own greed'. We have never had a system based on bringing through players from our youth academy. Our financial meltdown provided an opportunity to change all that, a chance that has been royally fucked up. Andy Mitchell now gone. A player who looked at least as good as Foster on a fraction of his salary.
MasterD 7,435
Another player who got better the longer he didn't play. And who many wanted to play out of his "natural position", despite moaning at the manager to play players in their "natural positions".
Viva La Vuvuzela! 13
Not devastated but I'm a little disappointed how it turned out with Andy, had decent hopes for him when he signed and thought he would have seriously challenged for a first team place years ago.Best wishes any road.VLV
Ace 3,556
This is scandalous & endemic of our managers opinion of youth. I am not a slave to youth but it's our only way to stop money haemorrhaging from out club, so keeping young talent like Mitchell with an opportunity to develop and sell him ... for a fee (remember when we used to sell our players, not just release them). Instead we decide to keep players like Forster & Smith .... just shocking !!
there'sonlyoneamoruso 1,724
I've read elsewhere that Mitchell may have made the first move. If that is the case then fair play to him, he obviously just wants go play first team football. I hope it works out for him.
WWTC 2,247
Ive a list of players we could easily do with out and who will have no long term future at Club. Mitchells that far out of the equation id forgot about him. The fact he signed a new contract in the summers just laughable
BlueSuedeSambas 53,752
While not exactly being a world beater he could easily have done the job that Foster does and for a fraction of the price too.
boss 1,941
With Mitchell, we didn't need Foster. Why Ally signed Foster and gave Mitchell a new contract in the summer is bewildering. But the truth is that neither are good enough anyway.
will_1974 204
Still think the best right backs are McCausland and Faure even though it is neither players natural position. Foster and Mitchell were third and forth best in my eyes.
ArchibaldLeitch 380
I would get rid of smith, foster, cribari, mcculloch, simonsen, shiels, hutton and crawford.Easier said than done but we would still win div1 at a canter without them. Young Bob 1,360
Hope he does well wherever he goes.Probably has been our best RB in the last 18 months. Ridiculous that he was offered a years contract then almost immediately told to find a new job. Another failing in our manager. If the captain of our reserve team isnt good enough to be retained it doesnt say much for the rest.
gazza27 15,281
Another pointless contract given outCorrect
siddiqi_drinker 14,635
What's the reasoning behind dumped CrawfordWas going to ask the same --- never understood why foster, smith and simonsen were signed in the first place.Sheils and Crawford both may still have something to offer but I'd let Hutton, Cribari and McCulloch all leave when contracts are up. there'sonlyoneamoruso 1,724
I think he came off the bench for Annan today. I'll be keeping an eye on him to see how he gets on. He may just drift off into obscurity.
