Cuellar also that summer.....was really confusing times, Ally made it seem like Goodwillie and Cuellar were his main targets, but then it was Hemed and Juhasz, plus the winger...verhoek?

Good call.

Wesley Verhoek (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈwɛs.li vər.ˈɦuk]) (born 25 September 1986 in Leidschendam) is a Dutch footballer currently playing for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie. Known as astriker who can also play as a winger on either side of the pitch, Verhoek has spent most of his professional career at ADO Den Haag at different positions in attack. His younger brother John is also a professional footballer and Wesley played alongside his brother in the last 4 months of his ADO-career, when the latter was loaned out by Stade Rennes to the Hague football club. After 8 years at ADO, Verhoek transferred to FC Twente[1] in the 2012 winter transfer window, but was traded 7 months later to Feyenoord[2] for Jerson Cabral, who went in the opposite direction.

Career[edit]

ADO Den Haag[edit]

Verhoek's career began when he signed a professional contract with ADO Den Haag, after the winter break in 2004–05 he played his first match in the first team of ADO Den Haag. Verhoek also played for the Dutch youth squad. In August 2011, ADO Den Haag and Nottingham Forest had agreed a fee[3] reported to be £2.5m[4] for Verhoek to join Forest; however Verhoek he pulled out of the deal, reportedly due to home sickness.[4][5] Verhoek denied this was the case.[6]

FC Twente[edit]

At the end of the transfer window in January 2012, Verhoek left ADO Den Haag to sign for FC Twente until July 2014. His time at FC Twente wasn't a big succes, so he moved on 31 August 2012 to Feyenoord.

Feyenoord[edit]

Verhoek joined Feyenoord after the last transferday from the summer transferwindow 2012. He was in a deal between FC Twente and Feyenoord. Verhoek goes to Feyenoord, andJerson Cabral goes to FC Twente.

Never really stood a chance of getting Hemed once a La Liga side showed interest. No release clause was triggered with Juhasz, Anderlecht were holding out for £4m and we reportedly offered £2m-2.5m. Became a bit of a trait with Whyte, offering well under a players asking price so it at least looked like we wanted to buy. Became obvious when he bid that amount for Juhasz while claiming we couldn't afford a similar fee for Goodwillie. In fact if you believe Dundee United we only agreed to meet Goodwillie's asking price when he was already en route to Blackburn for a medical.

To the guy that said Govou, that was the Paul Le Guen era and it was the Sun linking us with every half decent player in the French league.

We also tried to sign Alejandro bedoya and Matt McKay. Never saw them playing for us either. In all seriousness didn't we try and buy kenny miller (again, shock) and grant holt too? I mind we were offering Norwich 400k for holt when he was banging in goals in the epl and on the verge of an England call up.

Honestly... I like us trying to get players cheaply but when whyte was offering 4quid, a can of kestrel a fake Rolex watch and a bag of minstrels for a player we should have known something was up.

Edit also david Vaughan on a free was a target too.

I actually remember feeling really excited when the likes of Shagger, Whittaker and Davis all signed 5/6 year deals. Ended up being really dejected after the first Malmo game.

We'd tied Naismith down to a long term deal not long before it as well... Good to see that they all saw out their contracts..

Was that the game Whittaker got sent off in? I felt like he had robbed us.

Aye, and Naismith did his Chris Iwelumo impersonation.

The audacity of those two bastards sitting at that press conference, trying to justify themselves still gets to me, given their negative contribution to the cause and therefore finances. I half expect to find them in the Rangers Megastore burning merchandise and pilfering from the till.
