Bothwellbear 1,392
Rangers captain Lee wants defensive fortress at Ibrox LEE McCulloch today called on his Rangers team-mates to show a stark improvement at Ibrox during the final weeks of the season.Matthew Lindsay Sports JournalistWednesday 05/03/20140 CommentsSharePrintLee McCulloch is unhappy with Rangers' defensive record at homeAlly McCoist's men continued their astonishing defensive run away from home against East Fife at New Bayview at the weekend. They kept their 16th clean sheet on the road this season in a 1-0 win over their SPFL League One rivals. The Light Blues have conceded goals in only one league game on their travels this season - against Brechin City at Glebe Park in October. But their performances at home have, in contrast, left a great deal to be desired in recent weeks.Rangers have let in no fewer than six goals in their last three league games at Ibrox against Arbroath, Brechin and Stenhousemuir. In their match against the Warriors last month they allowed the visitors to net three times in a disappointing 3-3 draw. And midfielder Nicky Law suggested the crowd may have been a factor in those disappointing performances. The Gers have three games in a row coming up at the world-famous Govan ground in the space of seven days. They take on part-time minnows Albion Rovers in the William Hill Scottish Cup quarter-final on Sunday. They will then play Airdrie and Dunfermline in the league a week today and on Saturday week respectively - and could sew up the third tier title in either of them.Rangers captain McCulloch is keen for his side to perform better at the back in those outings. And he has called on his team-mates to learn how to deal with the pressure of playing in front of more than 40,000 fans.He said: "It could be that the crowd is having an influence on some of the players at home."But if you play for a team like Rangers you have to learn to deal with the pressure the crowd puts on you."You have to handle everything at a club like this. You have to handle taking the ball under pressure and the expectation levels of the fans. You have to handle an awful lot."McCulloch added: "The objective for myself and the rest of the back four is to keep a clean sheet this weekend and in the other games we have coming up."I think we have to concentrate on doing well at the back given how we have played in our recent games at Ibrox. Hopefully we can achieve that."When you are playing at home you should really be keeping clean sheets. We have lost a fair few goals in our last few games. It has been disappointing."It is strange when you look at our away record defensively. We have been so good at the back in our games on the road."Hopefully we can show an improvement in that vital department between now and the end of the season and give our fans something to cheer about with some victories." DerekJohnstone 628
We should have been playing "Rush Goalie" against some of these teams, never mind making Ibrox a fortress.

whytes3 254
With the exception of Wallace and to an extent Moshni, our back line is terrible.McCulloch is not a centre half, never has been, never will be and is starting to look his age. RB is a mess with Faure probably the best of a bad bunch. We then haveCribari (who has surely stolen the idenitiy of someone who used to play in Seire A) and Ross Perry who has always flattered to deceive.McCoist has spoken so many times about strengthning the squad, but has been blind to actually building a team with a solid backbone and for me that starts at the back line. We have not future potential in our defence other than at LB at present and even then I ghtink i is more than likely we will sell Lee Wallace in the next couple of seasons. allgers 735
Jig has to step back next season, we need a solid center back pairing to take into the premier, Jig and Mohsni are not it. Though in our current circumstance Mohsni will be there, I like the big man, but he has shown a volatile side that could get us into trouble. Mor3los_1 3,346
The criticism of McCulloch is OTT. He is not a CB and never will be, when put upfront he has done well becausr it is his natural position. Not many strikers make good CBs ffs.
