Terry Hurlock Loyal 12,133
Was thinking that it would be a fitting tribute to a true legend.
OneDavidCooper 2,505
No. Much as I respect Sandy's memory, I don't agree with this sort of thing. I don't think any numbers should be retired.
TheDarkStRangers 11
I think it is a true sign of respect to somebody who brought so much to our club. It's done by many other sports teams but they do it too often. I would like to see the number retired - nobody else deserves to wear that number anymore. At argument can be made to retire everything from 1-
Garnock Blue 316
We have had past legends who have been worthy of such a mark of respect, but where do you draw the line once started ? We would run out of numbers soon.....There are more practical ways of honouring our legends.
FernandoR20 2,133
Not a number retire.
Rapid6 77
No. Ricksen was 2 too!
elephants stoned 2,994
If its a current player who dies i can kinda see the point but how many players have worn our no2 since Sandy? Loads some great some not so great so its not really the same. Naming a stand or Auchinhowie after Sandy is a better idea.
julescotia 11,407
As much I respect the man, I don't agree with this sort of thing. As Garnock Blue said, where do you draw the line?Cooper was just as much a legend and we aint retired No.11.
Beer 2
While it would be a fitting tribute, as the years go by we'd run out of numbers.
bombaybadboy08 15,660
Nope, and that's no slight on Sandy. Will give players something to aspire to, can they fill that number 2 jersey?

Gallows high 208
No . Could be a reason every year on this basis
bluey9 12
No, not ever. Give kids something to aspire to. When they come in the door to begin life at Rangers give them something to aim for. Make them want to be the next Sandy Jardine, Coop, Ally, Greig. When I was a kid it was No.4 Jaws or Big DJ. It's what drives people to realise their dreams and become great. NixonRFC 1,333
I think the sentiment is great but I don't agree with retiring numbers, Jardine inspired a generation, no doubt there was thousands of kids wanting to be number 2 just like their idol.I believe the best way to honour a player is by having present and future players aspire to be as great as the main man himself, it might never happen but its something to aspire too. ScottBF2 3,540
The only number we should retire is 13. Only time I can remember someone wearing that was Alexander in the Uefa cup run.Until we had to use 1-16 for the squad that was.
disgruntled_bear 157
We tried this with the number 12. Didn't last long.
