Sweetheart 8,458
I'm all for a defensive coach. Nurturing the mind set and and developing the player will produce a genius defence
OzStyle 10
Andy Goram made 2 massive howlers at the start of his career, everybody wanted him arsed, I have seen Gough make mistakes many a time, Gary Stevens cost us a treble, I have watched Unirea, Sevilla, Juventus, Ajax and more absolutely destroy our defence (made up off full internationals) point is I think too many supporters criticise for the sake of criticising

nachothelegend 1,932
We conceded on average one goal every two games last season, is that really something we should be worried about? For me it is.I'll explain why.We get caught out at set pieces constantly, and that's a massive concern. We never dominate at corners and this is all against lower League opposition. We need to cut it out, as when we do come up against tougher spfl shite they seem to expose our failings defensively even more.Dundee Utd twice, and ICT along with Raith in the Final and even QOTS, and Forfar have all put us to the Sword because of this defensive failing.I liked big Mhosni, and thought he at times was capable however as the opposition gets tougher I reckon he has got worse, his attitude sucks now, and his concentration is poor and his distribution woeful, I reckon he needs replaced now.McGregor looks ok at RB where we have struggled since Hutton left IMO, and we really need to find someone at RB that can make it their position. Foster is poor, and offers no attack whatsoever, defensively he is average but gets caught out of position often. We really need a proper CB and, RB who can both dominate physically, and defensively and has ability to pass and move with the midfield, they also need to be comfortable with the ball. Foster is a nightmare and Mhosnis discipline is turning into a Bombscare. We need to tighten up as we progress up the League.Big Zal looks fine just need someone next to him who can form a partnership. I prefer a new Manager as Ally for me just doesn't have it.
Sweetheart 8,458
I like Moshni, I just think one of the more calmer experienced players needs to take him under his wing. The lads confidence has taken a dip.
OzStyle 10
comparing? we had a full team off internationals playing against much weaker teams, so in actual fact there is not that huge a difference, I am talking about Scottish games there for the majority
OzStyle 10
and as far as Europe goes, we had a better team than the likes of Kaunas, Unirea, Sparta Praha, Goteborg, Grasshoppers, Steau (95/96 not 87/88), Auxerre, but we were embarrassed in all those games
Sweetheart 8,458
Just an Idea, but on training days could players from previous Rangers squads not have an open invitation to train with the team. It may help to build their confidence, mental attitude, etc?
OzStyle 10
I am also a fan off Mohsni, True Blue, something seems extra wrong with him at the moment though

OzStyle 10
he had a wonderful 92/93 season but had an open cheque book for 9 in a row, still pissed he didn't deliver 10 in a row, I actually think his second stint in charge was better, but apart from 92/93 and somehow making the UEFA Final, he did in many ways under achieve lol
Creampuff 22,628
The same logic would apply, then, to the specialist goalkeeping coach. After all, if we consider the defensive stats to be ok, by the same yardstick, so are the keeper's.Especially when a short absence for the main man provokes the signing of a guy we've previously ditched. It's completely different. The goalkeeper is a specialist position, requiring far more one-on-one coaching and technical advice from an expert in the position. Defensive problems are almost always to do with a lack of organisation. We don't need a new position to be created on the coaching staff, we need the coaches currently there to do their jobs. There's also a massive part of it where we simply need the players to step it up. They're professional football players who have played in defence for the vast majority of their careers, they should be able to organise themselves on the pitch in order to prevent these problems from happening. HG5 11,112
Don't we have a grossly over-paid goalkeeping coach who seems to instruct 6ft keeper not to leave his line; what happened to 'owning the 6-yard box'...... another waste of money or is it just jobs for the boys. That's what I was driving at..... KingInTheNorth 27
While I agree we need a more specialised coaching staff, I don't think this is a priority. Any defensive frailties we have begin with a lack of defensive awareness and energy in midfield , and ends with Bilel Mohsni and Richard Foster.
