Surprised that no one has commented on what I see is the crux of the matter.

McCoist can't see the wood from the trees and actually thinks he is doing a good job and that he is the man for Rangers. That is why the decision is not his to make.

How many of us, given the opportunity of managing our club, could or would walk away from it, regardless of the situation?

And why would he want to manage any other club after Rangers?

He has repeatedly vowed not to quit and has now admitted he would find it difficult to work for any club other than Rangers.

Surely this should be: "He has repeatedly vowed not to quit and has now admitted he would find it difficult to get work for any club other than Rangers."

He knows perfectly well that as in any walk of life your time in a job comes to an end. Could be that the senior execs ask you to consider your performance and results and the potential for radical improvement then invite you to think about pursuing your fortunes elsewhere, or they may simply cut to the chase and fire you for a justifiable reason, or they may shun you / deny you resources or make it plain that you are not wanted and you eventually come to the conclusion that its time to move on, or you may simply wake up one morning and decide to call a halt to all of the stress of being criticised and hounded by all those who think they know better or who think someone else could do better, or health issues or family pressures start to influence the timing of going......... or you do the job you said you'd do and leave having done the job.

Who knows which of these routes will be the pathway to leaving. But one day the announcement would be made. By the current way of things that sort of announcement would be met with great rejoicing by some.

And then what? A new manager. Immediately some will think its a great appointment. Others will disagree. Yet more will be undecided preferring to give him a chance. If it happens mid season (this season for instance) then any failure to win promotion will be shared between Ally, the new manager and the Board (and maybe a bit allocated to the ST boycotters and match day absentees). A time of great rejoicing in the media as story after story can be written about the perpetuating failures at Rangers and heaping more and more pressure on the Club and the new manager. For failure to win promotion would mean at least another season in the Championship. Maybe more as the current bloated and expensive squad would need to be dismantled and the team rebuilt around youth and the those currently on loan. With no money to spend on buying players (more reduced ST and crowds for another season in the Championship) the rebuilding to create an Championship winning side might take a few seasons.

If the new manager managed to rescue the season and steer the team to winning promotion then the all those calling for change would doubtless feel relieved and justified. If he did not deliver then my guess is his head would be sought and blame dished out but the acid fact would be no promotion and yet more time in the Championship much to the delight of the other lot because it effectively hands them more uncontested titles and the prospect of more money from CL/Europa games.

At present I cannot see any Board wishing to take the risk of replacing the manager. I don't see that changing unless it became very clear that the prospect of promotion had dwindled to 'most unlikey' or worse and that would be a factor of results. Besides which, given the current stormy state at Rangers and with the financials still far from certain (more money will still have to be found even just to get to the end of the FY) and with 'who might be the next owner' stuff still swirling around what credible, experienced, sensible manager is out there with the skillsets to galvanise the squad and secure promotion? With the known and unkown states of affairs at Ibrox what person of real calibre would take the job never mind want the job? We can all speculate on here for endless days on who might and who might not but I doubt very much if there would be many (if any) applicants of the right calibre for the Board to choose from.
