Great player and the "last player to score a hat-trick for Scotland, scoring four goals in a match against Cyprus in 1969" from Wiki.

He'd have beat the record for goals in a Scotland game If Gemmell hadn't nicked the ball for the penalty in Cyprus match,he was also only Scotland player to score in 5 consecutive matches

eight goals in his first three games - hat trick, hat trick then double. Can't remember who against. One of our ECWC heroes.

Abroath, Hibs and Dundalk, he hit the bar in the Dundalk games as well was at all 3 games. He never had an issue with the wind and cold in Abroath. :)

What a Player Colin was. He puts the current lot to shame. There was never a lost cause when he played. He chased down everything and he must have been a defenders nightmare. I was privileged to see those first 2 games and he remains my hero to this day. He brings back some memories - that opening goal in the ECWC Final. Woooooft!

40 years ago this month, but still unforgettable.

40 years ago, where have the years gone,at the match I ended up standing next to some guys who were affiliated in some way with The Tillietudlem Inn, Crossford which at that time was owned by Geordie Young.

I got separated from my mates at Queen St station and ended up going through on my own on the football special and made my way to Easter road by following the vast throng of Bears who made the journey for that momentous occasion.

Paid in and stood by myself on that high terracing they had opposite the stand. When Colin Stein scored there was absolute bedlam, and I jumped on the guy standing beside me. "Fuck off", he muttered, "I'm a Hibs supporter".

 Aye, that was in the days when there was no fan segregation at the games.

I was in the so called enclosure below the North stand.
