Our New Captain Is....possibly John Eustace

Although he was before my time, didn't Terry Butcher do just that?

Butcher was England captain and it did not take him long to establish himself as Rangers captain as threw his head at everything and fought for the jersey so was easy to see why as he was a leader on the park.

Let's be serious, what influence? Bet 90% of the players will never have heard of him either. No disrespect but he's no exactly a Cambiasso to Leicester type situation or anyone that younger players would seriously look up to and respect, we can do better than that

They don't have to know him to respect him. If he's the natural born leader he's reported to be, he'll establish that pretty quickly.

Look, I'm not overly chuffed by this possible signing either, but I am trying to take a pragmatic view of it. I'm trying to second guess Warburton if he's bringing him in and there is logic in there, somewhere.

If he signs, I'll back him.

That's a really good point, but, given we were bringing in a whole new layer of talent at that time, it was not unreasonable to appoint a captain, even if a newcomer, who'd have universal respect.

I suppose it's inevitable now - apart from Miller & maybe Wallace, who's left that would spring to mind as captain material?

To be fair, that's very similar to what's happening now.

Given who is at the club just now, I think an incoming captain is inevitable and completely understandable.

Me too, but I would've liked some longevity in the captaincy for a bit of stability. This guy doesn't fit that criteria (atm)

Managers usually want their captain to be a player that they know and trust, probably even more so when you are carrying out a huge rebuilding job and Warburton will probably have seen exactly what leadership and influence around the dressing room Eustace can have considering they were both at Watford together.

Most likely.

Just hope he stays fit ~ he'll be fuck all use leading from the treatment table.

I think if we can get a Davie Weir kind of 3 or 4 years it could be ok. We'll see...
