Serious question mate, why do you prefer River over Boca?

The Argie fans are so passionate, football wise and at concerts.

I have been to see River play on a few occasions, first time was the copa libertadores semi final against Vasco de Gama in the monumental stadium and was blown away at the atmosphere, from then I have followed their results.Argentina is a great country to visit ,people were very welcoming, except for an incident in Puerto Madyrn, but thats another story :D

Do they celebrate burning papes too?

A wee clue, Argentinians are 75% catholic.

Seriously, was holding back reading this book I bought recently which has River Plate on the front, but this thread has decided me to read it soon.

I actually tend to be more favourable of Boca Juniors as a team as the World's best player ever, imo, had such a great relationship with them and their fans.

I read Maradona's autobiography "El Diego" recently, a good read.

Yep, read it a few times, my favourite football book, and one of the great biographies.

Puts a different perspective on hjm when you read how the Boca and Napoli fans adored him, and the stuff he got involved in off the park in those madhouse cities is quite an eye opener.

Ive always kept eye on Flamenco.

I knew there badge was similar to ours RFC

then found out they were a rowing club(sound familiar) in there early days.

About 12 years ago on holiday in Orlando i saw this guy staring at my Rangers shirt. He came over and asked which team it was, when i replied Rangers he said he liked shirt and was like his teams. I said oh Flamenco.

He was amazed i knew of Flamenco.

I was amazed he knew Cannigia played for us! He called us Rangers(not Glasgow).

I have always preferred Boca because it's the working class club and it's where Maradona played.

Rivers kit is far better though. Red Stripe are missing a trick not sponsoring them

I prefer River. Dunno why, probably also the strip, and I like the sound of the name more.

Now feel like I chose the wrong team, if Boca are the working class ones, right enough. I did not know this.

Feel free to keep preferring River because it is pish to say Boca are the working class side.River fans come from all social stratas(just like Boca) but mostly from some of the toughest under privileged barrios in Buenos Aires and beyond. The myth of River being the middle class club was forged when they moved close to the quite wealthy neighbourhood of Nunez in the 1920s and were then nicknamed the millionaires. If you want to support a club who play the poor immigrant victim card and are called the shit handlers and smellies by other clubs fans then support Celt,,err Boca. River champions of South America!

Eh.... don't think I want to get involved that much tbh. :( Dealing with that kind of stuff over here is quite enough for this punter.

I think I'll just keep innocently liking the team with the pretty strip and name. :dazed:

I'll leave this fight to you and BMR. :)

Interesting stuff, though.
