Ozblue 4,332
Report on tonight's 17's gamehttps://rfcyouths.wordpress.com/2015/11/25/first-half-goals-secure-the-points/Thanks for the report (as usual),Elfi There seems to be a few lads in that team who stand out on a regular basis, so do you think certain guys such as Zac Rudden have a realistic chance of making the grade, or is the opposition inferior which makes them appear genuine talents?I know it's always a risk trying to give a definitive critique of young players when you have to factor in the quality of the opposition, plus the fact they can look world beaters at 16-19 yrs of age and be "burned out" exiting their teenage years, but it would be interesting to hear your viewpoint on them. In my opinion the only way players can improve and progress is by playing against better or stronger opposition. So the recent inclusion of Kyle Bradley, Jamie Barjonas and Liam Burt in the Development League side has to help their progress. These three along with the injured Grant Nelson and Aidan Wilson who is only just coming back after a six month abscence would normally be first picks at 17's. Zak who is still only 15 has come on as a substitute in the last two Development League games. There are plans to play different and better opposition, one of the younger teams are going to play in a tournament at Newcastle soon.I do think a few of these players have a chance, they develop and progress at different rates. Liam Burt for example has taken a big leap forward this season and has already been included in the first team squad. Under the previous regime it was rare for even 17 year olds to play in the 20's, the average age of the team in the last 20's game was under 18.In last night's 17's game 10 of the 16 players used were under 16's, with 7 of them starting. That is why the recent loss to Hibs and the draw against Livingstone for the first team will probably be a benefit to them for the future,in that beating teams by big scores every week sees players drop into a comfort zone where subconsciously they become less than 100% aware of what is happening on the pitch and their standards drop.Watching the youth on RTV has shown players such as Liam Burt have the skills to step up a notch if they work hard. It's also amazing that Zak Rudden is only 15 and yet seems to handle the step-up rather well.
