On Thursday and Friday (and again on Thursday next week) the lights will be staying on at Ibrox all night long, as Rangers Charity Foundation host their 3 Big Ibrox Sleep Out Nights.

Each night 80 Intrepid Bears will endure the elements in a bid to raise money and awareness for the Homeless People of Glasgow.

Each of those 240 Bears has Pledged to Raise at least £100 for the Foundation in Sponsorship, to help them raise their target of £25,000 – enough to keep the Glasgow City Mission open for an extra month.

The RM Sponsors’ Fund has also pledged to do its bit – we will be donating £200 to the event.

And 5 Brave RangersMedia Members have signed up to endure the event, and are currently hassling their friends, family and workmate for as much sponsorship money as possible.

If like me, you would love to help too, but not to the extent of enduring a night out in this weather!!! - then all you need to do is donate a couple of quid via our PayPal Donate page, and PM me.

http://www.rangersmedia.co.uk/forum/donate.html

I will then pass that money on to RCF, who will add it to the total amount raised by our 5 Intrepid Members, and our £200.

That will then be all of us more than doing our bit, and we can all sleep easy (and warm) tonight. (tu)

NOW SOLD OUT!

How about challenging yourself to spend a cold December night at Ibrox Stadium with just a sleeping bag for warmth – all for a very good cause?

We've had such an amazing response to our initial Big Ibrox Sleep Outs scheduled for Thursday 3 and Friday 4 December that we have added a THIRD date on Thursday 10th December, giving even more fans the chance to take part, highlight the issue of homelessness and raise funds for our partnership with Glasgow City Mission’s Winter Night Shelter.

Participants will sleep out either on the technical area pitch-side or in the stand (under cover) if the weather is wet and will get a small glimpse of the conditions experienced in our city on a nightly basis by those who are street homeless.

The Foundation has pledged to raise £25,000 for the Glasgow Winter Night Shelter which provides safe, warm emergency accommodation for those who have no choice but to sleep on the street and thanks to our pledge the night shelter will be able to stay open for an extra month in March, when it is still very cold.

Fans taking part in the Sleep Out will be asked to bring along warm clothing and a sleeping bag and the Foundation will provide a ground covering, hot soup and beverages and a hot breakfast in the morning. The event will also feature a talk from Glasgow City Mission, a team quiz, plus an opportunity to visit the homes dressing room and Trophy Room.

Every participant is asked to raise a minimum of £100 for the Foundation to join the Big Sleep Out and by doing so will also become a True Blue Hero and be invited to a special reception to receive a True Blue Hero medal from a Rangers first team player next year.

To find out more about the Big Ibrox Sleep Out or sign up to take part contact the Foundation on 0141 580 8775 or e-mail rangerscharity@rangers.co.uk. A registration fee of £20 per person is applicable. Help the homeless of our city and sign up to sleep overnight in Ibrox Stadium!

All funds raised after costs will support Glasgow City Mission's Winter Night Shelter.

Winter Night Shelter Opens its Doors as Temperatures Drop

gcm-rough-sleeping-wide.jpg

Glasgow City Mission’s Winter Night Shelter has now opened its doors for 2015, providing vital accommodation for Glasgow’s rough sleepers over the coldest months.

The shelter will stay open until March 31st – a full extra month than normal due to the support of the Rangers Charity Foundation and the hundreds of supporters sleeping out at Ibrox overnight in December in support of the project.

The Shelter, which is operated by our Community Partner Glasgow City Mission along with more than a dozen partner agencies, will be based this year at Lodging House Mission’s premises on East Campbell Street.

After a safe night’s sleep in warm surroundings, breakfast will be provided for the service users who are also given information on other support services available across the city, including Glasgow City Mission’s city centre project.

Crucially, trained staff and volunteers seek to understand the underlying reasons for each person being homeless and connect people to Glasgow City Council’s Hamish Allan Centre where homelessness applications are made.

Where service users also have health issues that need addressed, staff can refer them to nearby NHS Hunter Street - a specialist clinic for people affected by homelessness and do not have access to a G.P.

Now in its sixth year, demand for the service is expected to remain high. Last year, 407 individuals benefited from the night shelter during the three months of its operation – a 10% rise on the previous year. Many reported how thankful they were for the service being there for them in their time of need.

‘Peter’ (not his real name) used the night shelter last year. He told staff he preferred to be called by his nickname, commenting: “I’m a street boy. I don’t deserve to have a name. If it wasn’t for this place I’d have killed myself. For the first time in my life I feel like there’s people that care about me.”

Grant Campbell, Chief Executive, Glasgow City Mission commented, “We believe no one should ever have to sleep rough on our city streets but sadly we know from experience that this occurs all too often. During the harsh winter months, it is simply too cold and too dangerous for some of our most vulnerable citizens.

“Critically however, we want to address the root causes and secure lasting help for people in the form of a sustainable housing solution.

“We’re pleased to be able to offer a range of enhanced services this year. Funding from the Rangers Charity Foundation is not only allowing the duration of the project to be extended by an extra month but is also paying for legal work to take place in the event that service users are refused accommodation or have been unfairly evicted by their landlord.

“We are particularly pleased about being able to stay open for longer. Every year, service users, staff and members of the public complain when we have to close on March 1st when fresh snow is still falling.”

My brother is doing this, i didn't realise it was this week. I hope people don't try turn it into a bevy session.

Why not?

They've put themselves forward, and raised their required sponsorship money, so they should be free to do whatever they have to to get through the night.

That's how many genuine homeless people get through it. Probably the only way in fact. :(

Many thanks to saltire266 for his donations.

He donated £45 to the Fund last week, which was split 3 ways. £15 each to the November Fundraiser, the Ibrox Sleep Out Fundraiser, and the next Fundraiser, whatever that may be. (tu)

And the other being £100 from his £500 Fund Donation after his "Oduwa Goal Before New Year" pledge.

Donation sent GB, good luck to the folk doing this.

I've no idea how folk manage to live rough worst I managed was 12hrs sleeping in a hard airport floor and that was too much, so to everyone doing the fund raising and all those out on the streets over winter keep yourself safe.
