mrmojorisin 13,715
Was watching an interview with Ally McCoist talking to Sandy Jardine and he spoke about these nights where players would go along for a few hours...AMc said that Jock Wallace actually insisted that players attend these functions.Going by the conversation I took it these nights no longer happen? AMc and SJ agreed they should resume.
RM Monitor And Standards Officer 112,686
They do happen and ive been at a few where players have been there.I'd say it maybe the naughty songs etc and fucking retards filming them that make these nights less frequent compared to how often they used to beSome fanny was trying to film one of our ex youth players a few years back belting out daddy's uniformI don't know why folk feel the need to video them. kplfishtank 4,745
Truth mate is its hard to get players to turn up. We used to have them and the excuses by players not turning up were great. Now if our RSC has one we wouldn't think of inviting a player. K.A.I 36,183
They still happen all the time but the guys above make great points - arseholes with video/camera phones and trying to get players to turn up.I mind Sie Leslie saying at a function one night that he got in touch with Rangers and asked for two players - they best they could do was Egil Ostenstaad and Christian Nerlinger and the price was £1500 (can't remember if that was each or for both) either way bang out of order.Rangers players don't make the nights anyway. OK it's good to meet a hero or two but the players generally don't give a fuck about the fans. Get a favour off a Rangers supporting DJ and a decent flute band and make sure there's a decent tray for them and your onto a winner.

kplfishtank 4,745
AMc did state that Jock Wallace MADE them go!I won't name the player but we had one dance and he was supposed to go. Never turned up and sent a youth player in his place. He claimed he was injured , must have looked daft when I met him in a nightclub later that night. Jock Wallace was manager at the time of this

kplfishtank 4,745
It's why we don't bother , on the flip side of that I was a guest at another Rsc night and Ricksen came to it, he couldn't have been any nicer, went round every table and sat with folk. Came in at 8 and stayed till near the end.

centenarystand 2,229
Was lucky enough to see Jock Wallace at the Johnstone RSC dinner dance many moons ago. Big Jock took the mike and gave a rendition of No Surrender.

Sparkle 54,522
I went to a few back in the glory days (late 80s) in the Rangers Club. Plenty of players came along, I remember one brilliant night when Ally gave us his full Bruce Springsteen repertoire plus some eh 'unrecorded material' No mobile phones in those days or sneaky rhats running to the DR to stir up trouble. Thewhitesettler 2,714
The Lewis and Harris RSC get ex players up to the clubhouse in Stornoway every now and again. There's been some good nights had with some of the players that's turned up. It's usually a ticket only event, and it gets sold out pretty quickly as well. Alec87 331
Was there the night Findlay got caught singing. Every member of the first team was there after we had just won a treble. Was a fantastic night until some bellend wasted it with the filming. When I saw it on the news I realised the tit must have been just behind me. BEE 4,880
Hate this culture of filming everything. Getting a camera shoved in my face by some steamer is a big reason I don't enjoy the football as much as I used to.

Getting a camera shoved in my face by some steamer is a big reason I don't enjoy the football as much as I used to.Its not just the football though, any night out after a few drinks the facebookers are on it and the rest of the nights logged in infinite detail for those unlucky/lucky enough not to be there, my phone stays in my pocket, I much prefer talking to people. Prso's headband 36,730
As above the culture of filming everything is ruining these things. How great would it be just to get Halliday to come to these nights and belt out the sash without the fear of it being plastered over the internet? Not that Halliday would be to bothered but still the media in this country would be all over it. I think MW will be all over this if players were invited. He consistently talks about appreciating the fans so I think he'd make sure at least 1 first team player went if they were invited.

Guest
Its the same with folk broadcasting their whole loves on social media, or going to a concert and watching the whole thing thru their phone. Folk cant just be in the moment and enjoy something, they have to document it to show off to their pals. Same with folk filming players singing, they cant just enjoy being there, being a fan and being part of something, they have to film it to show their taig pals like look how staunch i am, im going to get a Rangers man into bother so i can brag on social media to folk who dont even give a shit
