MuffGer posted this in another thread, and I would be fairly happy with the following starting XI...

-------------------JCD---BOYD---------------------

BEASLEY--THOMSON--FERGUSON--WHITTAKER

SMITH---------WEIR--CUELLAR----------HUTTON

-------------------MCGREGOR----------------------

What is everyone else's thoughts ?

If we are going to sign someone to play right midfield, Lets go out and sign a right midfielder instead of a right back.

I'd rather have an ineffective Chris Burke on the right wing, Than going out and paying over £1 million for Whittaker.

First team, Doesnt look that strong and the players who are waiting in the wings do not fill me with much confidence.

I agree...

the players who are waiting in the wings do not fill me with much confidence.

We have a potential "second team," if you will, of...

Gow Sebo

Adam Hemdani Buffel Burke

Papac Ehiogu Webster Murray

Smith

Looks not too bad.

Only change i would do to that lineup is Adam in for Thomson.

How about.........

McGregor

Hutton

Smith

Weir

Cuellar

Beasley

Naismith/Gow/Burke

Ferguson

Thomson/Hemdani

Boyd

Darchville

Much better, would still like to see Naisy here, his positional flexibility would see him play every game he is fit...

If we are going to get whittaker why don't we play hutton rw as he is better going forward than defending.

Because it's taken nearly two years to get him into any sort of form playing as a RB.

Anyway I think a lot of us will be suprised by the starting line up on the first day of the new season. Inverness away is one of the hardest away games in the SPL and I don't think Walter will change his ways now.

I wouldn't be suprised if McCulloch played upfront on his own (provided we get him) and we pack the midfield with Adam, Thomson and Ferguson. Beasley and JCD on the flanks!

It's not what i wont, but liek I said it wouldn't suprise me!

Rangers will play a defensive Midfielder next season, Whether its Hemdani or Thomson is the only debate. Its the only way Ferguson can be effective, as it allows him to move and dictate play.

Adam will be on the bench

  1. For now, let's dismiss Smith till he returns to training/the squad
  2. Whittaker as a right winger? I couldn't be less fond of that if I tried

We need a quality right winger, and a left back, and tbh I'll be fairly content with the first team at that point.

The fact we'll have Gow, Buffel, Adam, Hemdani, Murray and Webster who would all be argued as strong enough for the first team suggests the team's depth is distinctly healthy at the moment.

And then you still have your Ugos, Papac, Sebo, Novo, Burkes, Broadfoots etc.

The squad size is a VAST improvement on recent seasons, and it's starting to looking like a squad befitting our club.

I'm not too chuffed about it myself Danny, but I can't see us spending £1m+ on a back-up for Hutton, which would suggest to me he will be used on the wing.

I too would use the money to bring in a more natural winger.

I wouldnt sign or play Whittaker but rumours are that Smith is interested in him. You wouldnt pay £1-1.8million on a player and keep him on the bench. He's not better than Hutton so the only place would be to play him on the right of midfield. A position where he is hopeless!!

A right winger of quality is really all we're missing. (tu)

Someone like Pascal Feindouno, Darijo Srna, Zoltan Gera

Cant really comment on them mate - havent seen any of them play so Ill bow to your superior knowledge.

But right now Ill settle for anyone that can beat a man with pace and produce a final ball of quality....and give Burkey a kick up the arse to boot!

Same here and that's why we shouldnt go for Whittaker. His delivery is about as consistant as Burke's.
