Another year for me. He's improving but needs a full pre season to judge what level he's really at. If he has a great start to next season then sign him up for longer.

Only problem with this approach is timing. If we offer a one year deal and he has a storming start to next season then he can look to a contract elsewhere from January unsettling him and potential loss of transfer money.Give at least a 2 year deal.Think he has earned it tbh and at least he is one forward not afraid to shoot on sight!

O'Halloran got a 4 and a half year deal and if the manager really thinks Forrester has what it takes to be a top level player then perhaps he should be tied up for a similar length of time.  If he comes good and the English predators come sniffing around a couple of years down the line we will get a far better return for a guy with 2 and a half years still to run on his contract.

That's us protecting our investment.

Forrester was free. I'd offer him a 2 year deal + an option to give him an extra year.

Rangers on the brink of extending Harry Forrester contract after impressing since January move from Doncaster

By Mark Wilson For The Scottish Daily Mail

Published: 02:27, 1 April 2016 | Updated: 02:27, 1 April 2016

Mark Warburton has revealed Rangers are on the brink of signing up Harry Forrester on an extended contract ahead of their Premiership return.

The 25-year-old winger joined from Doncaster in January on a deal until the end of the season and has impressed in recent weeks, scoring four times.

Forrester said recently that he was keen to stay at Ibrox and Warburton has now confirmed talks are at advanced stage

'Harry has been in and we are talking to the agent,’ he said. ‘Touch wood, that will be completed very soon.

‘I know Harry. I said right at the start that he was trying too hard because he needs to impress.

‘He just needs to be somewhere where he is settled and knows he is going to get football.

‘Harry is a street player. He would play football all day given the chance. He just needs to feel loved, for want of a more technical term.’

Rangers also have the likes of Nicky Clark, Nicky Law and Dean Shiels out of contract this summer, with Warburton adding: ‘We have spoken to a number of players and looked at different things.

‘We look at our options and see how we lie budget-wise. That’s important to get our planning right.’

Warburton also insisted the opinion of the medical team will be final when it comes to deciding when Martyn Waghorn can return.

The 28-goal top-scorer hasn’t given up hope of featuring the Old Firm Scottish Cup semi-final on April 17 as he steps up his recuperation from a knee injury.

‘Waggy is working great but it is between him, our people here – the doctors and specialists – and the outside specialist to get it right,’ said Warburton.

‘The worst thing we could do is hurry him back. Likewise, drag our heels when he could come back.

‘He is working really hard, as you expect, but it has to be right for next season.

‘Waggy is increasing his loading. As long as the specialists are happy, we’ll be happy. Waggy would go this afternoon if he could. But we have to make sure it is right and his career is not negatively impacted by bringing him back too early.’

Players like Harry are the sort of players we need to make MW's philosophy work. Very technically gifted players, but with all the determination in the world.

Sign him up for life if he gets the winner against the scum :D

One year deal with an option for another. Keep him hungry.

If you can offer Holt and Halliday long term deals for doing well in the Championship then you can offer Forrester a long term deal for doing well in the Championship. Giving him a years contract makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Surely deserving of a new contract. Can't wait (along with a few others) too see how he gets on next season in a 'harder' league. Super Harry

I honestly don't think he'll have have a problem. It's not that big a jump to the top league and it's clear he's got the ability. I actually don't think we have a huge amount of players that would struggle in the top end of the premiership. We do have to add players thought, that's obvious.

There's a big interview in the next WATP Magazine with Forrester. Comes across very well and speaks very highly of the club, support and staff. Certainly got the impression from him that he wanted to stay here a while and he was enjoying his football.

He was offered a two year deal at Ajax a few years ago after impressing on trial. He's certainly got the talent, he just needs to show it on a regular basis.

Seriously? Never heard about that Dude, any idea why it fell through?

Harry's choice. He wanted regular first team football.

Cheap plug time, for more info you'll need to pick up issue 15 of WATP Magazine which will be out in time for the semi final. :P:lol:

lol shameless!

If that was his reasoning then fair enough to the lad, I don't know if I'd make the same decision.

lol it's my first cover and main feature for them. Of course I'm shameless

I can understand his logic. There's always that fear of being swallowed up when you're just another promising youngster at a big club. Reading between the lines a little, it appears the plan was for him to spend a while with Ajax's reserve side (who play in the Dutch 2nd tier) and allowing him to develop there. I think, in part, it was who was interested in him that also played a big part in turning down the Ajax deal.

I think he deserves a 2 year contract keep him hungry,  very impressive lately, I think he would cause a lot of damage next season once he is totally fit

a 2 year deal leaves you in a tricky situation. Let's say he has an absolute stormer of a season next year and we start getting bids for him in the summer of 2017. You're only going to get a fraction of his worth as he'll be on his final 12 months.

No less than a 3 year deal in my eyes. The lads got talent. Let's make him feel at home.

What if you give him a three year deal and its stops going so well? You're stuck with a player on the wagebill? It's a fine balance. 2 with an option is probably the best.
