The scum will be spewing now...they were praying aw day and everyday he would be punted :classier_than_pipeguy:

Aye, cause with Boydy as our striker we've won so much and he's done so well against Celtic <cr>

Seriously though, it's good news. He must have kept to his word of getting in better shape over the summer, and that's all the Boydy critics like myself asked of him.

So well done big man :)

Rangers skipper Barry Ferguson is delighted at reports that the club hope to extend striker Kris Boyd's contract.

It is being suggested that talks will begin this week on a deal to keep the 23-year-old Scotland international at Ibrox until 2011.

Ferguson said: "He came in for a lot of criticism last year, but the one thing the guy does is stick the ball in the back of the net.

"That's one of the hardest things to do. He deserves it."

Boyd has scored 46 goals for Rangers since joining from Kilmarnock in January last year.

But Ferguson expects that impressive strike rate to quicken in the forthcoming season.

"This year, I think you will see a big difference in Boydie," he said.

"He has come back looking very sharp and lost a few kilos."

Rangers manager Walter Smith recently tied up 21-year-old midfielder Charlie Adam on a new five-year contract extension.

And Ferguson believes it is important that players from the youth ranks are involved in the long-term future of the club.

"He has done great and it's great to see young guys coming through," the Scotland captain said.

"He learnt the hard way when he went out on loan to Ross County and St Mirren and did a great job.

"I'm sure he will do the same this year."

Meanwhile, Ferguson believes that Smith is not far from having a squad capable of ending the club's barren spell for silverware.

But he reckons the manager knows he is still two or three players short of having the squad he wants.

Ferguson also said the difference the club's new fitness coach has made will help them in challenging league champions Celtic.
