There was always going to be an element of trepidation/stage fright so maybe one striker was a way of working against that i.e. keep it tight and maybe sneak a goal from a set piece. The positive from the game was that when you had 2 up top you had more possession and looked more threatening. I'd expect 2 up top from the start against Ukraine followed by a similar set up to tonight for the German game.
