MikeBlue 136
I think this idea (presumeably taken from the Ryder Cup) of a non-playing captain is an excellent one. This means the captain can handle important things like press conferences without being bothered with training/playing games and the like.

Dado'sMulls 2,789
Has PLG assigned Gavin Rae as club captain just to spite Barry Ferguson and the majority of Rangers fans? Any manager with half a brain knows that the captain is an essential part of the team, a part of the team that cannot be played out by someone who barely has 90 minutes of football under their belt all season. Not to mention them being utter dire.
Danny 9
Stripping Barry was an outrage, but choosing Prso would be logical. And yet, he's overlooked in favour of a fringe player? This is actually quite despicable from PLG - unless we're now conjecturing that Prso's been a bad boy. Or maybe PLG thinks there's no point in making PRSO the captain as he'll only be with us til the end of the season. nvager 498
Who says Rae is a non playing captain? PLG will probably play him tomorrow at M'well. Its just madness.
Smurf1873 0
Lets not make Gavin Rae the scapegoat , he's just caught in the crossfire , however i think that PLG may have bitten off more than he or Murray can chew on this occassion.

Muff 245
Must be the worst captain in Rangers proud History. An absolute joke of a player, if he ran any slower he would be going backward's.
MeAndMyWeePalJoe 17
Lets not make Gavin Rae the scapegoat , he's just caught in the crossfire I agree. I think PLG is attempting to stamp his authority, it's a show of strength. There has been very public disagreement between Barry F and PLG over the importance of the captaincy. Now he has dropped Barry, which is a slap in the face, then added insult to the injury by giving the armband to a guy that has been widely tipped to leave the club in January, underlining Le Guen's view that the captain's role has no real value.Net result: There is one man in charge at Ibrox... PLG.

Have to separate the person from the player, and I think he is unfairly caught in the crossfire here.
MikeBlue 136
What I find particularly insulting about this is that I honestly think the reason PLG has chosen Gavin Rae is because he is Scottish - as if we are so provincial that we'll accept him taking over as captain because of it.I'm sorry for Gavin Rae, of course, but appointing a fringe player, widely rumoured to be on the verge of leaving is just ridiculous. Prso would be the obvious choice. Even Hemdani, Novo or Boyd would probably make more sense. Of course, sacking Le Guen and re-instating Ferguson would be the correct course of action for Murray to take.
