From Lindsay Herron in Germany

MANAGER Walter Smith has insisted that everyone in his squad has the chance to stake his claim as the action gets underway tonight.

Men like Filip Sebo found it hard to find a rhythm last season but Smith is willing to let the players show what they can do, starting with tonight's match against fourth-tier German side Guetersloh.

He added: "Every player in the squad has the chance to start again and show me what they can bring to the club.

"I think people forget that sometimes when foreign players come to a new country it takes time for them to settle in and once they do they can make an impact.

"I hope that is the case and I'm willing to have a look at everyone afresh."

Rangers are based at a purpose-built sports hotel in the grounds of a grand old hotel in a small village near the city if Bielefeld.

Portugal used it at last summer's World Cup Finals while Bayern Munich are among many top club sides to base themselves there.

Smith said: "It's an excellent facilit. Sandy Jardine went over there to check everything out and he gave us a glowing report and he was right.

"It should be a good trip overall because it is an opportunity for the new players to get to know their team mates better and develop understandings on the pitch."

What he actually means is he will not be buying any more new faces...that barsteward Murray has prbably told him to use what heez got and he is gettin no more money :pipegreen:

I think it actually means that he isn't going to judge players on their performances in one of our worst seasons ever.

Personally I think he is refering to Sebo, Burke and Papac here, but it would un professional to actually name them!

But as fans...we can! (name them)

It also looks like that Buffel probably has the chance of a future under Smith also.

WALTER SMITH will feel like he has signed two new players when he finally gets to field Thomas Buffel and Stevie Smith.

Smith has been out since December with hernia problems, while Buffel is recovering well from knee surgery in February, but the manager hopes to have them available early in the season. And, after overseeing the first day of training here in Germany, he sounded positive about the duo.

"Stevie and Thomas are coming along well, and Thomas may even join us here as he continues his specialist rehab after the operation," said Smith.

"Thomas will certainly rejoin the group when we get back, and we'll see how his overall fitness is then.

advertisement"He'll be clear to start training, but may well need a couple of weeks' pre-season training to get his fitness up.

"Stevie is the same, as he's been out since December. They should be back early in the season. They might well need a few games, so it could be into September before they are right up to speed in terms of fitness.

"Neither of the lads have played under me, so they will be welcome additions."

Ugo Ehiogu has been left at Murray Park for treatment after injuring himself in training and highly-rated kids John Fleck and Andrew Shinnie are here for experience and to boost the ranks for the three matches, starting tonight against FC Gutersloh.

Meanwhile, No.2 Ally McCoist will take in the Zeta v Kaunas Champions League qualifier first leg next week, and perhaps the return match, ahead of the winners facing Rangers.

Never even got a shot at the action when burke was horrible

Well you said that ersehole Buffel deserves his third chance for some strange reason.....no reason why this guy shouldnt be given another chance.

Soı we are more or less back to where we started with a few more donkeys thrown in for good luck :pipegreen:
