SCOUT OUT

Frank McParland set to QUIT Rangers amid budget concerns and boardroom unease at signings

The former Liverpool talent spotter could return down south with several clubs believed to be interested

FRANK MCPARLAND is poised to quit Rangers amid unhappiness over his recruitment record and a lack of resources for signings.

SunSport can reveal Mark Warburton’s trusted chief talent spotter has grown disillusioned with operating to a severely limited transfer budget – amid also interest in him from several English clubs.

But balancing that is boardroom disquiet with what directors see as a lack of value from a number of signings brought in last summer, including the disastrous Joey Barton episode, the currently crocked Niko Kranjcar, Philippe Senderos and Joe Garner, just three goals in 20 games.

The possibly imminent departure of former Liverpool scout McParland would be a serious blow for the under pressure Warburton who’s going into a must win Scottish Cup fifth round tie against Morton at Ibrox on Sunday.

There’s been speculation defeat would see the Londoner sacked following a hammering by Hearts and a draw against Ross County which has seen the Gers drop to third behind Aberdeen – with both now a whopping 27 points behind runaway leaders Celtic.

Ironically, Warburton is believed to be currently in London for discussions with a signing target.

Adding to the behind the scenes turmoil – with chairman Dave King nowhere to be seen – is the fact defender Rob Kiernan is now considering his Gers future after being targeted for verbal abuse from a number of bitter fans at half time of Saturday’s game against County.

Kiernan had been left out of the 18-man squad following a number of poor performances and mistakes and was in the main stand.

It wasn’t the first time he’s suffered stick from aggrieved supporters and he’s now weighing up the possibility of leaving at the end of the season.

Kiernan’s under contract until 2018.

Meh.

Had extremely high hopes for this guy, but he's fucked it like the management and the board. Any scout sitting at Ibrox at 3pm on a saturday isn't worth their salt at all IMO. Isn't that the best time to go out and scout players watching them yourself live?

Anyway the rumours that have been circulating about Garner having to change agents to FMP pal makes me think he comes across as a bit of a shadowy character.

everyone knew our budget would be limited so that excuse for him going simply doesnt wash. The signings has been poor and thats what he is there for. The two guys in January were lads MW knows - so what the fuck is Mcparland actually doing?

Ye i agree that's a very poor excuse, he's had all the time between transfer windows to negotiate deals and get players in place and yet we seem to be scrambling about at the last minute to get someone in and then as you say its a couple of loan deals that Mark Warburton gets in due to his contacts.

Barton/Rossiter weren't bad signings, one didn't work and one is injured...both could've turned out very well

Hill has probably been our best defender this season

Garner has potiential but is in the wrong team, with the wrong tactics, more blame on the manager than the scouting system

Senderos/Krancjar are the 2 sticking points i'd say personally,,,1 was a last minute panic buy, the other a injury prone player with some quality

With the exception of Hill not one of the signings have worked but I wouldn't blame McPartland for that, blame would lie with a mixture of Warburton (Barton/Garner) & bad luck (Rossiter/Krancjar)

Senderos was just a terrible signing
