What are our chances of finishing second?

With tonights news and the knowledge that whoever we get in will be a vital appointment.

I really hope we take our time over who we get in, a rushed appointment in a bid to get second place would be a huge mistake IMO.

But then, can we financially afford not to finish second? Dont think a caretaker manager will manage to get us there.

Is it worth sacrificing Europe for another season (by not finishing second) to make sure we get the right man? Or do we bring in someone now to try and guide us to second place?

We can get into Europe by finishing third or fourth. (depending on the tarriers or sheep winning the Scottish Cup) However personally I'd rather get our next manager in now! We've wasted enough time the last 6 years or so. ??

The next manager is going to be the most important in my lifetime.

This will tell us everything we need to know about where our club is heading. The ambition the board have for us.

We cannot afford to get it wrong.

If we appoint the likes of Mcleish or Davies as manager we will be lucky to finish in the top 6.We need to get someone in asap, also we cant go with an interim manager  with this length of time to the end of the season. We need a proven arse kicker in right away to get us into the European slot. The longer the board leave it the more likely we wont be in Europe next season.

That's the key.

Even stumbling around as we are, we're good for 3rd, at worst 4th.

New guy in now, to get things sorted as best he can for the Euro qualifiers, will give us our best chance.

Is it still the case that there is a massive difference in prize money between 2nd and 3rd place? If so, I think that is more important in terms of having funds to buy players for next season.

What do you call a massive difference?

Last season it was about £285k a difference.

It'll take a lot more than you think to make any of our players play how we need them to play. Kiernan and Halliday will never stop being shite, Wallace and Tavernier will never stop gifting crosses, waghorn garner etc won't just start suddenly scoring goals.  Forget Morton for a second, if we don't get 3 points in the next league game I'd forget about us finishing 2nd place.

I though it was something like 50% of TV money to the team that finishes 1st, 45% to the team that finishes 2nd, and 5% split between all the other teams.

Last seasons but probably not much difference to this year.

We have a squad full of mediocrity, no manager and no money.

Does it actually matter if we finish second or not?

Warburton was part of a much bigger problem, in the lack of investment. Any new manager will have very limited resources and a squad with serious weaknesses.

To mount a challenge as we should be, most of them need put out the door as we go nowhere with this squad.

Our problem is systemic and no matter who comes in, we will fail to mount a challenge unless adequate investment is made available, or we just cut our cloth to suit and lower our expectation and accept our destiny under King in that limited funding will bring and that is second at best to the scum? Accept King and his illusion and there will be little point in complaining if performances don't improve under the next manager.

We may be excited at the prospect of a new manager, but one thing king is good at in his leadership is disappointment. It appears Warburton tried to out fox a fox and failed. This has all been handled badly and we again hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. A club of our size and standing that we are so poor we cannot even pay off 700k in compo and made the the cut a clean one? A PR disaster!

This will continue to be life as we know it under King and anyone who thinks otherwise is either lying or seriously deluded.

Our only hope for success is that king out foxes himself and we secure the leadership and investment that we deserve, or we take matters into our own hands. King, Murray, the Islamophobe and Whitney all guzzle from the trough in one way or another and our crest is tarnished as a consequence. After all that we have gone through, integrity should be the watch word. In another time, these mendacious characters would not have been allowed anywhere near us. It should all be about the football, but that is a forlorn hope with these characters hanging around like a bad smell.

Best summary I have read for a while.  Those celebrating at the moment are in for massive disappointment in the months ahead unless the points you raise here are addressed.

Out foxing the glib and shameless one, no chance. Perhaps someone with money lets say Ashley to bulldoze  him aside is the only way to get rid of him.

The only person with that kind of money that has links to Rangers is Ashley and in the process of selling up at Newcastle, on this forum he is not liked, but overall I think that most Rangers supporters would welcome him because of the security his money offers, most Rangers fans locally to me don't see a problem with Ashley if he stumps up the money.

I doubt we will finish in 2nd spot, to do so will require the right manager in now to have any hope of 2nd.
