Pedro Caixinha is ready to raid his former club for a defender who is also his godson. The incoming Rangers boss has described Ghana star Rashid Sumaila as his "trusted centre-back". According to Qatari media, Caixinha is planning to take the 24-year-old from his former club Al-Ghafara. Sumaila has won six caps for his country and in season 2010-11 was voted Ghana’s best defender. He also has a gold medal from the All-Africa Games during the same campaign. Caixinha has been the godfather of the centre-half since he joined Al-Gharafa on loan from Al-Qadsia last year. Sumaila is said to have been a key player in lifting the Qatari side from bottom of the Stars League to fifth place. The Ghanian, who is out of contract at Al-Qadsia at the end of June, was voted as Al-Gharafa’s best player after the first round of the league. cushynumber 25,178 Posted March 10, 2017 Share Posted March 10, 2017 the lad likes a tackle. the issue we have - with any new signings not just this lad - is that the manager, in not knowing the first thing about scottish football, falls into the MW trap of thinking it is pretty shit and that journeyman players from lower leagues will coast it. Every manager (or player for that matter) who ever thought that has been found out, because you dont just have to be better than most, you have to be better than all the rest (to paraphrase Tina).
