Former Rangers boss Mark Warburton insists his time in charge at Ibrox was a success.

The Englishman left the club in February after 20 months in the hotseat with his side 24 points adrift of rivals Celtic, but the new Nottingham Forest boss reckons his spell at Ibrox was anything but a failure.

Chairman Dave King also labelled the 54-year-old 'thin-skinned' last week as the legal process continues between Rangers and their former manager.

Warburton also thinks some of the club's support struggled to accept that they weren't challenging Celtic for the title and instead were battling Aberdeen to finish best of the rest.

He told the Telegraph : “We came in and promotion (from the Scottish Championship) was non-negotiable, we won it early by 11 points. We lost the Scottish Cup final, beating Celtic in the semi-final, and left with the club second in the Premiership table.

"I can’t help but think that must go down as successful – not in an arrogant way, far from it, but I defy anyone to say that’s not been a good period.

“Some of the Rangers fans are magnificent but the expectation is hard because it’s very difficult for them to accept their club not being at the top of Scottish football and fighting European campaigns. But it was a fantastic experience and it can’t be taken away from me.

“I’ve read a lot of things (since leaving) that we’re supposed to have done and said that I know aren’t true. I’m not going to get drawn into an argument, we’ve kept our counsel and I hope the real story comes out.”

Warburton is unfazed by the pressures at Forest and is confident his side can beat the drop and target a return to the top flight of English football.

He added: “The short-term aim is survival and we can’t come in and make wholesale changes. We’ve got a mini-season of eight games and we’ve got to get the environment right to get the points required.

“The ultimate aim has to get back into the Premier League but now we’re in a battle and you have to appreciate it.

Been said lots before but he is a deluded idiot as forest fans will find out in the not too distant future.

His Forest interviews are all classic just like ours only the team name changes.

 the one where he said "we only concentrate on what we do" or words to that affect made me chuckle. While our manager is at Dundee v the sheep tonight. Preparation seems to be night and day under pc compared to him.

DID WE NOT DO THIS A FEW WEEKS BACK?

He'll continue repeating it over and over again (Warburton, not Smile).

Trying to convince us all that he done a good job and didn't fuck us over while promising that the "truth" will come out eventually. Reminds me a bit of McCoist.

From the outside (of Scotland) looking in I can see a lot of folk believing this. What they won't see is his stubbornness, and lack of ability to take a club beyond what he sees as successful. Once they hear the same old soundbites and take notice on how soon his management style stifles progress they will change their minds.

I agree with Warbie 100%, and anyone who says otherwise is a taig.

BTW - Did I mention we've got a signed Warbie photo for auction?

:p:

Good luck with that one GB might want to double it up with a McCoist one and you may raise a fiver.

Wasn't a dig at you. More annoyance at the fact he's giving almost identical interviews a week or 2 apart. It's almost as if he doesn't want our new manager getting the attention.

He needs to focus on his new team and fuck off.

Never understood that from Warburton said it on here and at that time everyone backed him and treated me like I'd kidnapped Maddie McCann.

Did well first season also did start to get the youth system and other behind the scenes stuff right . Second season got the transfers wrong. We were 3rd position when he left so failed .  With our budget we should have been a clear second place without any difficulty. It looked to me like he realised this and that's why him and his team were looking around

Absolute arrogance looking back. I'll admit I was a defender of him until killie away at the start of the season, happy to admit I was very wrong.
