Huge signing by all accounts. Great age, great value, great potential. A partnership of him and Alves is a massive step up. Reminiscent of Weir and Carlos with Alves nurturing young Fabio although arguably these two are an upgrade on those two. If they're anything like Weir and Carlos we're absolutely laughing.

Welcome Fabio.

Bye Rob :hiboys:

RANGERS Football Club can today confirm the signing of Portuguese defender Fabio Cardoso on a three–year deal.

The 23-year-old centre-half joins the Light Blues from Vitoria Setubal in his homeland and has completed his move after successfully passing a medical.

A former youth and under-20 star with Portugal, 6’ 1” Cardoso started his career with Benfica and played for their ‘B’ team before going on loan to another Primeira Liga side, Pacos de Ferreira, in January 2015.

He then moved to Setubal last July having agreed a four-year contract, and in 2016/17 made 23 appearances for the club.

With Bruno Alves signing for Rangers on Wednesday, Pedro Caixinha has now added another highly-rated Portuguese defender to his squad with Cardoso a commanding and powerful player who is comfortable on the ball.

The Ibrox gaffer said of his new man: “He is a player who everyone describes as having big potential to be one of the centre-halves of the future with the Portuguese national team.

“We believe in him and he can perform on the right or on the left which is good in a centre-half.

“We try to organise the centre-halves by thinking about them as a double and I think we have four very good centre-halves who can perform together or independently.

“Fabio is 23 so having an experienced player around like Bruno Alves is good, he is a player whose one main characteristic is leadership so Fabio will feel comfortable and grow and learn from him.”
