Deanzmeanzheinz 4,312
There's been many comments/praise about this Rangers Legend/Barca Bear. One thing that has regularly been cited is the important goals he scored - so here's a breakdown of goals he scored in semi finals/finals during his Rangers career. All of them at Hampden Park League Cup Semi Finals 1973 1976 1978 1979 (disputed with Jim Casey og) League Cup Finals 1975 1979 Scottish Cup Semi Finals 1972 Scottish Cup Finals 1976 1978 9 goals in total all from central midfield. Take a bow Doddie

To Be A Ranger 4,032
Smallest bloke on the pitch played like a giant against the biggest players. Got stuck right in and never bottled it. A tremendous driving influence in midfield. A true Rangers legend Still goes to games and is a regular (honorary president?) down the Kirky RSC. Bearsden bear 2,376
Though not a spring chicken myself i dont really remember too much about wee Doddy. My Dad used to go on about Colin Stein all the time......my first memory was Sandy Jardine, not a bad one to be fair
Big Al 55 9,241
Cut about with his son at school, in his house regularly growing up and attended several games as family guest at Tynecastle. A true Rangers man, unfortunately the son wad a Hearts fan Not seen the son for 20 years.
The Widow's Son 399
Full hearted player. Don't recall him playing (much) for Scotland. Remember his joke about breaking church windows a good few years ago, in jest these days but perhaps not so in the bygone days of yore. A great servant to the club and the Scottish game. Met him very briefly once and was impressed. Can any older Bears share memories of his Scottish caps if any. Outwith my cable tow at the moment. slimjim1690 4,534
The amount of goals wee Doddie scored with the heed was amazing as well, he struggled a bit in the beginning but he didn't half come good, I loved the wee man.
gmcf 34,090
Legend. I doubt if there is a more underrated player than Wee Doddie.
glasgow argyle 1,093
A shoe in to be included in the 2nd best ever Rangers eleven. And would have been on the bench for best ever starting side. A true blue legend and one of the best box to box midfielders ever. The only player who reminded me of him was Stuart McCall.
ZZed 4,510
I could never get how Doddy was not in the Scotland squad 74 or 78.
siddiqi_drinker 14,635
Fittest player at Ibrox in his day, never gave less than 110% and scored a few important goals with his head. Capped once for Scotland and once for the Scottish League X1

Yeah, I doubt there was a better player that did what he did . Covered the whole midfield with a work ethic second to none .

I've also heard Bobby Russells son is a celtic fan and Sandy Jardines son is a Hibs fan. I could never ever imagine my sons or grand kids supporting anyone else bar Rangers. And a class act like Bobby Russell was never capped at all, we must have had some top quality Scottish midfielders at the time if these two could not get a sniff, but thinking back that would have been Argentina 78 time and Don Masson and Bruce Rioch were 1st teamers, I am sure Doddie and Russell were better bets than that pair. onefootwillie 1,518
He struggled at the start but became a Rangers legend. Really the first box to box midfielder I can recall . Everyone talks about the goals he scored but the amount of work he put in was unreal. Always 100% never hid, my favourite player of that era even above Colin Stein which says a lot . For younger members very like Paul Scholes except Alex could tackle
Orange Persson 547
There wasn't anything he did not do well. Clever on the ball, ferocious in the tackle, great engine and heading ability. Link up play was excellent and tremendous spirit. Remember a thunderous goal against Ajax. I was going as a kid when he came from St Johnstone as a left winger. He improved physically with us and became the all round player, rather than a winger. He always ran straight off the field at Old Firm games............no handshakes! tannerall 25,935
And here's the highlights. The combination of Alex MacDonald with both Bobby Russell and Tommy McLean was a joy to watch, and for such wee guys they showed amazing determination. Enjoy.........
