The Widow's Son 399
Watching some old footage of wee Bud playing in the 1960's/1970's. Perhaps it's advanced age or distractions but there are some time when I'll forget how good a player has been. He played in the 1960's for us but was still at the top of his game for the 1978 World Cup and returned to Ibrox in 1980 for an Indian summer. Quick with great control and a good crosser of the ball. If I ever meet him, I'll offer him a fag and tell him how much joy he brought to bears of a certain vintage. eejay the dj and Ayrblue1

gmcf 34,152
Great wee player for us . I remember him saying , when he sat on the ball to take the piss against the tarriers in the 1970 League Cup win , Willie Waddell fined him a weeks wages . Didn't seem to learn his lesson , right enough , cos I'm pretty sure he did it again against Bayern in the ECWC semi in
thebooler 4,509
He's a cracking wee guy as well. One of the best wingers I've ever seen. siddiqi_drinker and dougie76
thebooler 4,509
It wasn't unusual for a manager to turn to the bench to tell wee Bud to get stripped, only to be told "he's away for a fag"! ? ForeverAndEver, dougie76 and bornabear
pcbear 10,913
I seen him 2nd time around when he prob was not at his peak, some of the old footage showed what a player he was and a flying machine.

Popular Post slimjim1690 4,534
One of my most cherished memories of bud was in a game against East Fife of all teams (if memory serves me correct) at Ibrox in the late 60's, the ball got cleared (blootered) out of our box and over the head of the EF right back who was standing about 2/3 yards inside his own half, wee bud was just outside our 18 yard box on the left wing and just took off, I still to this day cannot believe what I saw next, the EF keeper didn't bother coming off his line as he rightfully thought his RB had it covered but bud had other ideas by the time that the RB realized what was happening it was to late, wee bud actually beat him to the ball about 5yards from the bye line, unfortunately none of the rest of his teammates were as fast as the wee man and the move petered out, but it was an incredible sight to witness and the whole of Ibrox were on their feet cheering the wee fella. Wee bud gave me many cherished memories and will forever be one of my favourite players till the day I die, it was a privilege to have watched him play for us. only14me, siddiqi_drinker, CoopsLaud and 2 others
tam57 698
Told me to get out of his f@@@ing way when I walked into him going to a European night outside the central station. I was walking backward conducting the singing. He had his fur coat on so he was easy to recognise.

harlands plater 16,975
Cracking player, some pace and could put over an excellent cross. Not too shabby in the air either for a wee guy. Used to watch the team training at the Albion from my uncle’s veranda in the high flats, Bud was some character.

siddiqi_drinker 14,635
Don't forget his, around 14 or so Red Cards, wee man just belted anyone who he thought was going to foul him. Famously pulled that sit on the ball stunt against Bayern Munich and the tarriers, I think legend status does him justice.
BLUEDIGNITY 33,647
How can you forget how massive a Legend he is when he was part of the team who scored 2 goals along with another Legend Coin Stein who scored the other who brought a European trophy back to Ibrox, our only European trophy ? bornabear, harlands plater, thebooler and 1 other
tannerall 25,935
Wullie, oh Wullie Johnston on the wing, I still remember this, I was right behind it in the middle terracing that night. Just think, when he did this he had defenders like Schwartzenbeck, Beckenbauer and Breitner along with the great Sepp Maier in goals in front of him, all future World Cup winners........... I remember 1980 league game v Killie where we thumped them 8-1 I can be seen in the crowd wearing my WBA strip in tribute to my hero at that time The Ecwc semi final v Bayern game summed Bud up A team of world class defenders could not handle him Wish we had someone like him on the park nowadays playing for us Ivybank
