The Scottish Premiership was back among Europe's top-10 revenue-generating leagues following Rangers' return to the top flight in season 2016-17. (The Times, print edition)

Measurable proof that they need us!

On a side note, are Scotland in the top ten UEFA rankings for EL and CL? We should be if performing to standard.

So why aren't the board using it as heavy leverage.

We're 26th, lodged between Serbia in 25th and Belarus in 27th. Three places behind Azerbaijan and seven behind Cyprus.

It is not the league that generates the cash but two teams in this league only. The rest are just making up the numbers and living of the top two. They all hate us but love our money. After what these teams along with the filth have done to us in the past years it's time for us to look after ourselves and screw our haters. We need to ensure we are properly rewarded for what we generate and make deals relevant to our stature as the best supported team in this country. With talk of  different setups in Europe possibly coming soon it is vital that we are at the top table. Our history, achievements, loyalty and particularly our support which  is one of the best in Europe should ensure we are there. We have no voice in Europe unlike the tims and you can rest assured they will be looking after themselves only. We should strive to gain stature in England with the help of our current manager which will lead to more exposure on the continent. We also need to get in positions of influence in both Scottish and European football. We are bigger than the scum and deserve our voice to be heard. It goes without saying but the team needs to winning in conjunction with our goals for the future.

Jesus christ that's some dire reading :(

I think if Rangers had anything resembling a normal number of points we'd be up around 15th, 16th or so.

Best ever when we were both in the CL, it was something like 8th IIRC, for a season or 2.

the first thing Scottish football needs to do is clear out septics place-men and sycophants. They need a truly independent body to make impartial judgements in all areas of football and implement professional referees. They could also make a ruling that you have to play 2 player who have come through you youth ranks in 25% of your league games, this would help with bringing youngsters through at all levels.

The current lot in charge of running the  SFA and SPFL, cannot see through the green tinted glasses that they are killing off Scottish football.

To what end is only something they can tell us as to why they are killing Scottish football.

As a whole. We are no marks in Europe, no marks in international games, and a laughing stock of a league.

We need truly independant people in who really only care for the sake of Scottish football.

And a new traaining programme for referees.

Look at the Belgians. They went to grass roots, asked every one of their clubs what needs to be improved

and then got around to sorting it out.

Our green tinted idiots are just looking after the east end club, the rest can feck themselves as far as they are concerned.

Sad thing is, all the other clubs are sitting back doing nothing about it. At least Rangers are finding their voice now,

Scotland sitting 26th, between Serbia and Belarus.

Have you got a link to the Times article in the OP?

Yet these backward cunts( Dundee Utd are the prime example) would rather their own clubs go to the wall than accept us as the asset we are.

Just highlighting the most comforting, realistic comment on the thread so far.

Dundee United have been wonderful these past few years. A real end of season joy

Stop supporting the other teams in the league and allow it to deteriorate to the level where it fails. This would encourage an alternate league for us to be part of, maybe in the English leagues or a European league. I'm fast becoming as much of a hater of them as they are towards Rangers. Fuck them I say.

Your side note is a very interesting discussion point IMO.

We are always talking about what a back water league this is, but top ten revenue generating league shows that we are not using our revenues well enough. Certainly not top ten International team (out of the European teams) and I very much doubt Scotland is top 10 in CL and EL.

Our Refs are amateur and absolute shite, our teams cannot compete on the European stage and our international team hasn't qualified for a major tournament in how long? When was the last Scottish World Class player?

Our Football institutions are failing us but all anyone is interested in is trying to kill the big bad Rangers

Thing is revenue generated is heavily skewed in favour of two teams, take out us and them and where does the league come in that table

Is that really that important though? Take Barcelona and Real out of the Spanish league and what is left?

Those big two are generating enough interest in La Liga to sustain the whole country's football infrastructure making Spanish football the most successful in Europe.

Just because we are a two horse race doesn't mean that our nation shouldn't be doing a fuck lot better than we are

Spanish league has a country with a country with a population 9x what we have, more potential viewers means they can sell it for more, and more revenue, scotland has way too many teams for its population and also suffers from the fact that a big chunk of revenue comes from tv and prize money, teams are afraid to cut wages and try blood more youngsters etx

The hatred is killing football in this country.... when Dundee United played in the UEFA cup final I wanted them to win.... I was only 10 mind you so clearly supremely naive, but irrespective, there seemed to be a lot less hate. As I have posted many times on here, the hatred in our game really ramped up with John Reid joining the scum.

Its been all downhill since. not just for Rangers but for the whole footballing nation.

If Scottish football could get over their hatred of all thing Rangers and ask questions of why we are performing so badly on a European scale then we might start seeing change. being back in the top 10 of revenue earners because Rangers are back in the top league may sound like good news but imagine how we would move up that top 10 if we actually had some smart businessmen running the FA in the interests of ALL member clubs instead of just the few (one). Investors must look at the hatred and division here and think "fuck spending money there"

But even with current levels of investment we need to see much more development of our game and many more youths coming through. We just spent 4 years working our way through the lower leagues spreading the cash all through the divisions, what have they done with the extra cash? Have we been the catalyst for a conveyor belt of talent coming through? Have we fuck, we kept the lights on for a wee while for the smaller clubs and fuck all changed, they went back to normal once we went up the leagues.

Rangers are in the weird situation of being the financial juggernaut that keeps the lights on in Scottish football and yet have almost no say in how it gets run

Excellent post.

Just wait for the clamour from the green’n greys when they wail about ‘no competition’ (a situation they have completely managed) & demand entry into the EPL.
