I'd rather the club cared more about its actual fanbase. If we started making money out of Asian/African/USA fans we would start catering to them more. Don't want us to become another soulless EPL brand.

In fairness, Rangers have fans in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and in the USA; there's ways of growing the brand without losing the club identity, such as trying to tap into those markets. We could do worse things than come to some sort of commercial link up with Toronto FC, given that there are a decent number of bears in Ontario.

You can have both you know. Having  world wide known player as your manager should be exploited for every penny we can get

Plus going by the Euro package fiasco, the fans are the last thing on the clubs mind.

Yes that’s why I said “it’s a strange one”. I understand the benefits but I would also be wary of the pitfalls.

I would say they are mostly ex-pats or families of ex-pats in those countries. I think that’s different to Asian and African fans.

Need to thank all those taigs for bumping up the figures, and giving us some comedy gold in the comments section.

To be fair we have given them plenty comedy gold on the pitch these last few years, as much as it pains me to say it.

what pitfalls? millions of pounds going into the  Club? Disasterous

Look at what’s happening with Barcelona and Girona just now. The price of a global brand is pricing out real fans and loss of identity.

The support for Liverpool in the republic is insane

....and Man Utd. I am over in Limerick next week on business and Man Utd + Liverpool fight it out as biggest supported clubs. CFC will be 3rd at best as normal ROI folks steer away from their baggage.

It's a bit of a strange one. Obviously the Club will wish to keep growing the brand, finding new markets etc but I would honestly hate it if we started attracting the type of global "fans" that teams like Arsenal/Man United/Liverpool have.

It’s a toughy.  I support Liverpool as well as Rangers.  At a typical EPL game at Anfield there are maybe 10000 tourists.  At Ibrox there will be less than 100.  There is a debate in Liverpool about how to retain the local identity as well as developing the world wide fan base.  Go to a League Cup game at Anfield in December and you won’t see any tourists.   It is a balancing act, bigger brand equals more money which buys better players.  At the same time the core identity and values of the club needs to remain.  Given that Ibrox is full every week we would need another 20000 added to the capacity to get everyone it.   Or we could end up like Arsenal where regular fans are priced out. Already seeing hints of this with the Europa League package.

Always wondered why the tarriers have double the amount of followers on Twitter and Facebook than us considering they are nowhere near as big as they think. Someone mentioned they bought a lot of followers, not sure how that is possible but apparently that’s the reason. We both have the same amount of subscribers to our YouTube channels, round about 70k.

If Rangers or the scum were ever to get into the EPL then we’d be up there with United and Liverpool of that I’m sure due to the exposure to Asian markets.

How would making money from abroad preclude looking after fans at home? If anything, flogging gear to Asians would pay to improve the matchday experience at home.

Oh right. You post stuff and we have to guess what you mean? I’ll pass, thanks.

As @andyhrfc said above, Liverpool have already faced the quandary of balancing identity with increased commercialism. The result of globalistion is homogeneity. People already complain that the Club doesn't stick up for the loyalist/PUL part of our fanbase. They'll wish you a happy Eid on Twitter but on 12th July it's silent. Things like this would only become more common if we were a giant global brand.

Glad someone has brought up the youtube topic. I was going to raise something, but am probably just imagining it. Then again....probably not!

When I go onto youtube, the home page brings up a load of recommended channels and video's. I regularly watch old Gers games, the official club video's, H&H podcasts etc. Recently, I've noticed that I get bombarded with Scum fans video's. Not the official club ones either......the really hideous, bead rattling ones. Not just one either, but maybe 3 or 4 a day. The more I select 'not interested' the more they appear! Has anyone else noticed this?
